Default Lateral Gs and data acquisition...

I'm curious what kind of _sustained_ lateral Gs guys are pulling? With my 275+305 R888s I see a sustained 1.2G around Thunderhill's Turn 2 and I know there's more there... so just what are others seeing? Just curious about numbers, duration and maybe tires/suspension/aero mods as applicable...

Glen,

Are you talking about lateral G's at just Thunderhill or any track? I have some TrackVision videos showing G-forces my car pulls at NHMS and Monticello Motor Club here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdqniH_mCoE (R6s)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NwQSyH6DU8 (V710s)

I ran 275/305 R888s for two years and 1.2Gs is about what I was getting. With 295/315 Hoosiers R6s and Kumho 305/315 V710s I get about 1.3-1.4Gs. Each ring on the TrackVision G-meter is 0.5G and you can see it jump above 1.5Gs a couple times in those videos.

The car is a base 2006 with the LEMD/Hardbar Penske DA HyperCoil dual rate setup. C6Z51 front sway, C5Z06 rear sway, camber kit, -1.5 deg front camber, -1.0 deg rear camber.

I've got lots of 10Hz MaxQ data logger files if that would be of any help.

Any track. Just trying to gauge what people are seeing with different tires and suspension configurations. Enitrely out of curiosity. I see RAFTRACER pulled 1.098G on street tires in the OLOA on the skidpad.

I've managed 1.05G's at times (peak), but 0.9G's is the best steady state I can manage on street tires at Putnam. I'm running 235/50/17's.

I remember Buttermore was seeing spikes of 2g and sustained 1.5g at Road America with his T1 car in 09 at the June Sprints. I believe that would be T1 springs, T1 sways, Penske or Moton triples, and 295/315 Hoosier A6.

The more Gs I pull in corners the more black and blue my rib cage is.

Lateral G-forces are not so easy to even compare between cars and tracks. The course may have different coatings, it can be more or less steady, and then the suspension of the car into the picture and unsprung weight. The curve can be more or less long and G-force then becomes more or less prolonged. Skidpad on a completely flat surface is probably the best indicator for comparison, but are most useful in attracting a picture of balance in the car.

Since it is important to be clear about what you really find out by looking at the G-force comparisons. Aero is the most critical component of the figures, (except tires). But to compare the G-force figures from various circumstances, not very useful.

Allright, it might be fun to compare.

You're right, of course, Goran. I'm assuming most people will pick something where they see a steady G load for multiple seconds and not just a spike, and I'm also assuming most people will say if they achieved such a thing in a banked corner or not. This thread is mostly for grins and it may be interesting if somebody had done an A/B comparison of tires, etc.

I just wanted to draw attention to the need to take into account the circumstances and that the differences are not so large, which make it easy to jump to conclusions.
