Hawk HT-10 coming apart...or not?
What would be the opinion for this pad? Is it done coming apart, and a long life ahead of it, or could it lose the rest of the pad material in chunks? Their off of a c4. Thanks for any advice. I don't know if the picture shows it, but there's a lot of pad left.

I have some HT-10 pads that have cracks, perhaps they got over heated. That could be the pad crumbling or maybe it got hit by something. Test the area and see if it's attached well. If so keep running it, I would.

What did the rotor look like before you ran those pads? grooved, crazed, cracked, warped or new? I believe it can make a big difference. I am now beginning to use new rotors with new pads.

My vote is to use them as well. That damage looks as if it occured during disassembly. The pads only have strength in compression, if they are nicked or dinged on the sides, pieces can fracture off. I have had it happen before but not on Hawks.

The rotors were new, they still look good. Slight grooving started. Probably more noticeable on that pad. That pad was an outside pad and it is thinner than the other three, like it could of been dragging but everytime it was spun by hand the caliper was free, or maybe just cause of less pad surface material. I probably didn't have them bedded in completely before the track day, but they didn't get used too hard first time out.

I don't know Lyle. Sometimes strange things happen. Maybe you will have better luck with different pads. I have run worse looking pads before so just keep a good look on them. Good seeing you at Autobahn last weekend.

Id call Hawk and send them the pic. They might deem them defective and give you a replacement set. If not, Id run them and monitor them closely. Could be the pad, the caliper or debris.

I have had a chunk on the edge of the pad come off, but not like that where the whole edge is "shaved off".
I would say something got rubbed/stuck/lodged in there for a bit & then fell out.
Carefully ck the caliper that it came off & also rotate the pad to the other side & see what happens when you put the undamaged pad on that caliper.
