Default Wheel Questions

I will start by informing all, that I have never run on slicks. That is fixing to change. Before investing in another set of wheels, I would like to learn more. All of my track experience has been on Nitto 555RII 17-275 in front and 18-305 in the rear. I feel a little push.

This past weekend at RA, I noticed that several of you were running the same size wheels, (square-set-up I think). What is the advantage of this set-up? If so, are the wheels the same width as well? I even noticed some cars with 17" all around?

In general, what wheel sizes and types do some of you run and why. If I will never W2W is there a reason to purchase a "race wheel" or will OEM wheels work fine for HPDE3/4 or TT?

Thanks for your help.

IMHO it's hard to beat the OEM C5Z rears for the strength/weight/brake clearance/price ratio

square is nice as you can rotate them, and it makes the car pretty neutral

don't underestimate the speed of sticky tires, I kept telling scott how fast he was going to go and he didn't believe me and he went from 1:40 to 1:34 with a tire change

So, I take it that there are no clearance problems running the OEM rear 18" wheels on the front. Do you run a 305 or 315 size?

I run 17" 315 on all corners, and you will rip out your front cooling ducts if you try to turn too sharply. I have fresh rub marks on mine after every DE, but I've never ripped them out yet. If you don't run with a little camber on the fronts, you might rub on the fender lip. I don't seem to be doing it now, but I was before I set my camber to 1.75*.
