Default Race Car for Sale

It's that time again for me to change race cars. I just bought a Super Truck for the track and I need to sell my Thunder Roadster. Several of my Corvette friends moved to Thunder Roadsters in the past couple of years and all loved them. If you want to spend a lot of time on the track and only spend a little money this is a great car for you. The cost of operation is about 1/4 of what I spent on my C5 when I was tracking it. The car is safe and very fast in the turns. Lap times at Spring Mountain are comparable to a stock C6 ZO6 on race tires.

The car cost $18,500 new, I am asking $11,000 OBO

If you are interested send me a PM or email TRforSale@projectcba.com

Here is a link to my "Thunder Roadster for Sale" web page. Please visit for more details.

Thanks for looking, and happy racing!

Was that Super truck local?

If it's the one I'm thinking of, that thing can fly

Hey Adam - Good luck with sale, looks like a fun little machine!

How much power are these making?
you have any specs/sources for these Yamaha 1250 engines?
What trans/differential do these use?
Have a crazy future project in the works and this is close to what I have in mind.

Thanks for any info

The truck was the Super Truck Inc (Placentia CA) development mule and demonstrator for their new Spring Mountain road racing series. Its an old circle track frame with updated symetrical suspension and Wilwood brakes for road racing. I bought it as a roller so I will be building a 383 stroker for power.

Yes they fly, 500HP, 2500 lbs. wet, w/driver, and 13 inch wide slicks.

I can't wait to get it going...

2B,
The engine/transmission is a XJR1300(L). 600 Racing sells them in crate form as both air and water cooled versions. This is the same engine and drivetrain used in the popular Legends circle track racing series. Sealed stock engines like mine makes about 125 HP at the crank. With a big-bore kit, cams and racing carbs this engine can make over 150HP.

Link to 600 Racing Engine Page

Link to Legends Catalog

The transmission is the integral 5 speed motorcycle trans. Very cool in a car, it gives you a sequential trans you can shift without the clutch.

There is a coupler to attach a driveshaft where the chain sprocket was on the motorcycle. The rearend is a narrowed Toyata Celica, with a spool (no differential) also available from 600 Racing.

I will have some close-up shots of the engine and drivetrain posted on the web page by tomorrow.

Nice. There's another one running around SoCal (I thought you may have gotten yours from him), the guy mostly races with HSR and usually runs away from his group pretty well un-contested. Would be sweet to see someone give him some competition

There are a few of these trucks converted to road racing around here. CF member Americanmusl has #33 with a similar color scheme, but he runs NASA not HSR. They are hard to beat on short tight tracks. On the longer tracks they give up some top speed to the more aero shaped cars.

Ive been trying to convince "The Boss" that I really need a Thunder Roadster but she hasn't latched on to that idea yet.

I used the economics argument. It went something like this

Honey, I need to get this race car to save money. It will cost me a lost less so I can go the track more often and stay happy without spending as much $$.

The breakdown went like this:

Tires,
Corvette $1400 per set;
TR $470 - and they last twice as long

Brakes,
Corvette $700 for new pads and rotors every 4 track days, plus rebuilding the calipers ($100) every 2nd brake job;
TR - I don't know, they haven't worn enough to notice in two years

Gas,
Corvette 6-10 gallons per 30 minute session depending on track
TR 2-4 gallons

Of course I was already trailering the Vette with slicks so the trailer and tow vehicle cost was sunk.

Keep trying and the boss may say yes.

I think she would be fine with it if I would agree to stop spending money on the C6 & stopped building new hydroplanes. It maybe a winter project.

I couldn't find much info on the price of the truck. What does a roller chassis run?

It depends, lots of variables. Mine was on the high side because of all the upgrades it has, but all it needs is some cleaning, a motor, trans, and driveshaft and I will have one of the fastest rides at your avarage HPDE event.

I will PM you some numbers.

I have zero experience with these as this is the first one I have seen, but it looks like a lot of fun. Just curious, what is the top speed? How fast does it accelerate? How does it compare to a C6Z?

The power to weight is about ½ that of a C6 Z06, so top speed and acceleration are proportionately less. Geared for a tight road course, top speed is about 110 MPH. The acceleration is brisk, but not as fast as a Vette or Viper. The braking and corner speed are better than a C6 Z because it is so much lighter compared to the tire size.
