I always used 275's and 305's. I felt a little safer with the wheel width, but that's me. I've had 315's all the way around on 17's and wore some nice edges on the front fender wells.

I would agree with 275's on the front (9.5") wheels, and 295's on the rear (10.5") wheels.
Going any bigger will "fit", but you're going beyond the recommended rim width for the tire sizes (or only running the minimum recommended at best) and it's generally best to run the max rim width per given tire, not the other way around.
Remember, factory only runs 265 & 285. Again, given the sizes available, 275/295 is "optimum".
However, that's just my $.02 ... maybe wider tires on (relatively) narrower rims works for some people .

More of my $.02; I've been told that the T1 guys run 295's and 315's on 17's all the way around. My T1 felt great with the 315's all the way around. It was a big difference from the 275/305's on the stock wheels. To me, and again only my opinion, its best to get a set of wheels for the track for the sizes you want to run. CCW's seem to be the standard and they are not too terribly expensive. Of course, for a track day here or there, it may not make a lot of sense.

Hoosiers on Stock rims.
I have a set of CCW's 18x12 with 315's rear and 18x10 with 295's front. Just wanted a spare set and didn't want to spend 3000.00 for another.

I have 4 18x10.5 c5 rims with 275 hoosier R6's
Works well on my c4
Loose nut behind the wheel is the main issue.

Factory Z06 was 265/40/17 and 295/35/18. Uncommon front and rear sizes which is part of the reason we pay so much for tires (well us and the P cars)
I have 295/30/18's A6's square currently on factory 10.5" rims. Car seems to work pretty well that way, but I may go 295/315 as the 30 series does change things just a little in the rear from the 315/35 V710 I was running from a top speed and acceleration stand point, but part of that is probably user error

Like Fej, I'm running 10.5's on all corners, but with 315's. Love the way the car tracks through corners with this setup. Yeah, she rubs the brake ducts at full lock (think Grattan's 270* turn) but no other issues so far.

A Hoosier 295 fits about as perfect as you can get on a 10.5" rim. The Hoosier 275 is a pretty wide sucker (10.3" tread), and it will fit on a 9.5" rim, but a 10" rim is probably about perfect for it. We run them (275's) on the 10.5's and they work well.

Thanks,Scott... I was just about to ask the same question.
The answer will greatly change the suggestions.
to the OP:
RR guys and some Time trial guys might do a setup way different than us conechasers.
Also, if you're autcrossing, the class you choose will dictate the wheel.
I run 295/17 F and 315/18 in the rear with no rubbing issues as well..
There are a few people i've met that try the 315/17s up front, but there are fender rubbing issues there, and you need to use a spacer to correct that.

So it's folks have safely run 295-30-17 on the front 17x9.5 width rim? I've been skitish to run more than 275-40-17 on the 9.5" width but my NCM instructor said the car definitely needs more tire in front and I agree--it really pushes at times.

Running square wheels/tires takes a lot of the factory understeer out. (ie, run wider wheels up front)
