Default GT3RS at MSR Cresson today

I got 25 minutes as a passenger in a well driven GT3RS with R6s at MSR Cresson today in 104 degree heat! AWESOME!!!
I think the MOST impressive thing about the car is the braking. The amount of braking (because of the balance due to rear engine layout) is incredible, but my Z06 moves around alot at threshold braking, while the GT3RS is absolutely stable under end of the world braking effort. We ran with the red group of Driver's edge, and there was NOTHING on the track that was as fast! We passed every car there (there were Nationwide cars, 3 GT3RSs, lotsa Z06s, an Audi R8V10, a GT-40, and all kinds of other race cars). My final note is that, with 104 degree ambient, the GT3 ran water temp of 170 degrees and an oil temp of 250 degrees!

Yeah, the GT3RSs are fantastic under braking and handle very very well. The only time I've run against one was on a temporary circuit in Brownsville. There was a stupid-long back straight where I reached 170+ in my Z06. With that much room to air the Z out, he couldn't hang, but he was slowly reeling me in in the twisty parts (he was also running sticker Michelin slicks, while I was on tired V710s).

Mental note - make sure you torque the lug nuts on all of your wheels, or when one falls off of a GT3RS, you're out $8k for a brake rotor

Yeah I think that would apply to most track cars. This particular car has safety wired lugs and a full cage........the other two RS cars did not. My understanding is that the European GT3 comes with a cage and different track seats.

Yeah, obviously applies to all cars, track or not. Just saying it's more expensive when things go wrong on the GT3RS

Except most track cars don't have 8 grand rotors What are they carbon?

Yup. Porsche's Carbon-Ceramic Brakes. Wicked brakes when in one piece. Wicked expensive when they're not.

I love my Z06 as a track car but the new GT3RS is absolutely amazing. I don't think there is a better track car straight off the showroom floor. I realize that it cost between $150-165K depending on options but, it is an incredible car.

I can only imagine how nice the 997.2 GT3RS is on track. Only experience I've seen with a GT3 at MSRC is a stock 997.1 GT3 beating out some VRL/ACR type vipers. My jaw was somewhere between floor and knees when I saw that.

Porsche knows how to build a track car or two!

Garrett, was that our buddy Taz?

Autocrossed with the BMW guys yesterday, came in 2nd in class (I think, formal results haven't been posted yet). Today I spent finishing up the welding in the engine compartment of my Miata project. Got some pinholes I need to weld up, maybe tomorrow.

Have a good one,
Mike

Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCBs) are an option for the 997 GT3 RS.

For the current 997 GT3 RS, the PCCB system is an $8,840 option.

As an aside, here's a discussion of Porsche's system and the C6 ZR1's system: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/g...omparison.html

Porsche has been building race cars for the track and street for decades. GM builds street cars that are high enough performance that we track them. If GM built factory trackable cars, they would come with tow hooks at each end, seats that don't need to be replaced so the driver can be safely held by his 5 or 6 point harness, etc.

Porsche has never had to ask itself if it wanted to have factory supported racing efforts, only which series. You can find factory supported Porsche race cars on every continent except Antartica.

The only car I ever felt wanted to kill me was a 911. I love my vette, and I respect Porsche.

I agree. If GM actually made a track car like the GT3RS it would definitely hold its own.

But the sad truth is they simply don't.

I can also understand your comment about the 911 wanting to kill you. I have a high hp GT2 and even in a straight line it wants to kill you.

63vette. I was out there this weekend running in the Blue Group. A few posts down i reviewed my weekend. I saw the GT3RS and ill try and post a pic of it later on i took one with my phone. They have that unique paint job with the bold accents on the wheels and mirrors.

It would have been run to ride in that. Were you running with any group this weekend?

There was a grey one with red wheels and accents at RA a couple of weeks ago. I was never out at the same time, but that thing looked fast standing still.

That 997 GT3 RS appears to have the GT3 RS steel rotors (the PCCB system has yellow calipers). Unlike the front/rear composite rotors, which cost approximately $16K to replace, the front/rear steel rotors come in at around $2K.

Brownsville, as in Brownsville TX?

When was this and when are they doing it again?
