ALMS Corvette ZR1's.....What Happened
Was watching the race at Lime Rock Park and it seemed as if the M powered BMW's were going to run them right off of the track!!! It wasn't long ago that nobody could compete with the corvette's but this drop down in class has the GM team searching for answers, for now at least. No BMW should be doing that to the factory backed ZR1's!!!!!!!

I'll take struggling in GT2 over racing each other in GT1 any day. The officiating during that race certainly didn't help. The blocking penalty seemed odd if, as the commentators mentioned, there was not even a warning. Take a look at the GT standings:
5 1 45 GT Bergmeister/(Long*) 161 10 Laps 2:45:40.015 56.022 106 Porsche 911 RSR Running
6 2 92 GT Auberlen*/(Milner) 161 10 Laps 2:45:41.510 56.107 132 BMW M3 GT Running
7 3 90 GT (Mueller)/Hand* 161 10 Laps 2:45:44.094 55.943 126 BMW M3 GT Running
8 4 61 GT Salo*/(Kaffer) 160 11 Laps 2:45:56.305 56.196 124 Ferrari 430 GT Running
9 5 4 GT (Beretta)/Gavin* 159 12 Laps 2:45:15.385 55.973 116 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Running
The no. 4 ran the second quickest lap in GT and only .03 slower than the fastest BMW. Yet, it had to move out of the way because the BMW's didn't have power/handling to pass (isn't that racing?). I suppose the no. 4 may have been padding the no. 3's position at the time, but a warning would have been appropriate.

Now, what hasn't been discussed here is the Bimmers using push-to-pass 'cheater' technology in their cars for this race. It hasn't made too much press, but my understanding is they openly bragged about it before the race to a bunch of fans/officials/etc in some meeting. I wasn't there, but forum member BWright was, and he emailed that to me after the meeting.
Anyone know anything about it in the Bimmers? I looked it up and only found mention of it in Indy...

why should factory backed BMW's be slower than factory backed Vettes, especially campaigned by Rahal-Letterman! I'm GRATEFULL that there is some competition in GT, or the race would have been a total waste of time!

The idea is a button on the steering wheel that boosts engine HP for brief amounts of time. The info about it in Indy Car...

I don't know if it's the same thing they were referring to in the meeting prior to the race. But my guess is: yes. It was.

The blocking was pretty obvious. Whether it was because the driver in the Vette was sand-bagging on purpose to pad #3 or because something was wrong with the car, he was clearly holding those two Bimmers up. They were hauling some serious *** during that part of the race.
