Is the Lola Corvette not a T-600 coupe with some body mods?

It was a T-700 series chassis with a Corvette(ish) body.

Here's a link to the Lola type numbers. The T600 is listed as GTP car and the T700 as n Indy/CART car.

The T70 is still my all time favorite. I just wish I could afford on of the "continuation" replica cars that Lola is producing. A drop dead car with Chevy power. How much fun would that be?

Looks like according to that list, the Corvette GTPs were T710 for 1984 and T711 for 1985. Then also T86/10 and T86/12 for 1986, T87/10 for 1987 and T88/11 for 1988.

It looks OK, but Mendeola is THE king of offroad transaxles. Look at the list of cars in any offroad series and 80% or more will be using Mendeola transaxles (if the vehicle is so equipped).

They have 5 & 6 speed sequentials that are designed to be abused in offroad racing and get you to the finish line.

They also have a new synchro 6-speed street trans as well, using the same gearsets they have in the sequentials for strength.

Boy do I agree with you. That car was awesome. As a kid I saw the Penske car at Sebring and Daytona and still love to see and hear them at vintage races. The March and Intrepid chassis/Chevy GTP cars were great looking too....but the T70 was the best. I have numerous 1/18 diecast's of them.

I remember Doc Bundy blowing T1 @ RIR. He took out himself, Lyn St. James (Ford Probe GTP), Elliot Forbes-Robinson (Jaguar GTP.) Firey crash. Bundy made a bad decision trying to pass there. Glad everyone was ok to race another day.

Those GTP Corvettes were STUPID FAST. I mean STUPID!

They were on the pole, and by the end of the 2nd lap, both cars had "checked out." Maybe I'll post the video sometime...

Obviously, in hindsight he shoudn't have stuck it in there, but one might also argue she appears to move down (or perhaps inadvertently use the narrowing track as a pick) after he had already gotten along side. In any event, politics of the times aside, IMHO the crash somewhat put a period on the end of a fantastic era.

I think she was paying more attention to the Jag on her right and didn't see Bundy move in on her left...event though he was making up track at a very fast clip from the last corner.

I asked David Hobbs about the Corvette GTP and he said it was frightening how fast they accelerated. This from a professional racing driver...

They recently had a reunion of the Hendricks Motorsports Corvette GTP crew at John O'Gara's pub in Indianapolis. John was part of that group be fore heading off to a very successful stint with Indy cars. He was kind enough to introduce me to Ken Howe the project leader. Mr. Howe is still with Hendricks as head of their research and development efforts.

I'm always amazed how few Corvette fans know about the Lola Corvette. It's one of the forgotten eras.

I saw this car race at Laguna Seca but it did not finish. The Ford Probe GTP car won that event.

This brings back some memories. I saw the Corvette GTP at the San Antonio IMSA race in '87. Sarel van deer Merwe and Doc Bundy placed third in the Corvette GTP behind first place Derek Bell/Chip Robinson and second place Al Holbert/AJ Foyt in Porsche 962's. A golden age for sure.
