race pads driving to track
Just bought Cobalt xr2 pads prior to my 1st weekend at road atlanta, a 4 hr drive from home. Should I worry about using them for the trip over, should I swap the stock pads out friday night in the hotel's lot, or does it really matter? I have 12 DE days total all on stock pads so I have no real insight to how they will feel or wear.

I don't have experience w/XR2s - but their temp range is down to 50F. Some race pads are excellent on the street (RC6s, 6es, etc), but if anything, the pads will have the opposite problem of being "grabby" - you might need to warm them up before you get much braking.

I left my Hawk DTC 70's on my C6 z06 since the July 09 event at VIR. Stops fine, squeaks like hell. People think a mac truck is pulling up next to them ...pretty funny!

I drive with my Xr2's daily. If they start to squeal real bad just do a quick "bedin" procedure and usally they will quiet down a bit. Here is instructions for the proper procedure from the stoptech website

I've ran PFC01s and DTC70s and PFC99s for the ~3hr drive the track no problem.
Squeel like your driving a UPS truck and take awhile to heat up and stop WELL.
But, you'll be fine IMHO.

Looking back on the whole thing I think I was overdoing it. Just put them on at home and have fun at the track.

i once put significant wear on the race pads driving to the track.
the drive was 900 miles and I was towing about 500lbs with another couple of hunderd lbs of stuff in the car
3 hour drive is going to be fine although your braking action may be a little funky when they are cold, be gentle and leave yourself some extra stopping space just in case!
