how wide can I go with Hoosier R6

Depends on the tires you want to use. I've run as wide as 295's on those rims. The 275 A6's are more crisp than the 295's, and there doesn't seem to be much speed difference if any between the two.

Yep, but the 295's help on low speed push in tight corners, 275's react quicker to change in slaloms, so it depends on the course laid out.

I'm cheap. Used 275's are hard to come by, so I have run 315's on the front 9.5 rims the last two sets. Walmart does not have a problem mounting them. A6 or V710.
I suppose if I could run 275 and 315 back to back on the same day etc., I might be able to tell the difference, but otherwise, I can't. I had a personal best at Blackhawk a few weeks ago with 315 fronts on 9.5" rims.
Just another opinion.

I sat in with someone that had 315 on his 10.5" wide rim and the turn in bite was a huge difference compared to my 275's.
My fronts are gone so I need to buy new tires and after being in his car, I think wider would be better suited for the tracks I have been running. With the 275's the car was fighting to get the grip on fast turn in.
I have the zr1 wheels, 17X9.5 front and 17X11 rear. What width can I run in the rear without any rubbing issues? I currently run 275/315 setup.
For the fronts I will try 295.
Another question, what tire is best for DOT track/street legal tire? I want to drive to the track with the wheels on, rather than squeezing 4 wheels into the vette and doing the change at the track.
R888, Ra1, Yoko, Nitto?
which one performs best?
Thanks

Right now I have 315 on 9.5 fronts and 335 on 11" rears. The wheels are OEM Grand Sport (56mm & 50 mm offsets). The rear ducts have a shiny spot on them where the rears may touch at high cornering loads. It did not rub off any plastic.
I like the V710's. A lot of stick and wear a lot longer than the A6. I drive to events on them, but you really have to be careful if it rains.

The limiting factor isn't the tire size, it's the wheel width. It's the support mechanism that the entire tire is supported from and leveraged (sidewalls) off of.
Put another way, I'd trade wheel width for tire width. (I'd rather have a 275 on a 10.5" wheel than a 315 on a 9.5" wheel). The car is so much more reactive, and alive like 96solo says in slalom or high speed sweepers on open track.
I've personally tested 315's on 10 and 11" wheels, and 295's on 10.5's and 275's on 10.5" (all same compound) back to back on the same track, on the same day, and there is virtually no lap time difference, but there is quite a lot of feel difference.
I guess the point is 295's aren't bad, but support them with a 10.5" or 11" wheel, I promise you'll like the feel.
Also note since you are looking at various brands, not all "275" or "295" tires measure the same. Hoosier's 275 are wider than a regular 275 street car tire. Just peek through some specs, section width, measured rim width, and tread width.

RA-1 oldie and a goodie
555RII nitto is a good arrive and drive tire. they have a 285/35/18 that works well on the 18x10.5" wheels. pretty sticky and they last forever

We haven't run them too much on my brother's Z06 since my dad just picked it up in June. We ran at Tire rack with the Z wheels and it didn't seem too bad. My brother had no idea we have this car for him yet. We will be surprising him with it this saturday at Grissom.

I have an extra pair of 315's so I will try to get these mounted on the fronts. I will try the square, 315 set up. I have one track day left on this set.
I would like to run the 335 on back next but worry about the rubbing issue.
Also what tire pressure should I be running cold?
