Default What ever happened to that white Z called the DRM RTR (Update)

DRM as a company is normally not one to brag about performance and accomplishments. But this time I'm going to toot our horn a bit since I was pretty open about the build process and other details about the car. We have much respect for the owner (Troy) of the car because he has been great to deal with since day one. Troy has a ton of time behind the wheel of some very fast karts and has his share of success in karting.

Lets start from the beginning.
Easter weekend of 2009 we delivered the car to MAM in Nebraska. After that he brought the car home and started to run some HPDE and club events for the rest of the year.
Here is the video from that weekend.

Then I got word that he was going to give NASA Time Trials a go. He got the car classified (By adding some weight) and his goal was to run the 2010 session. We enjoyed getting the Monday phone calls this year about the all the success. So here we are towards the end of the year, he wrapped up the championship with 8 class wins. To make it a bit better there is 4 unconfirmed track records set by Troy this year.

Motorsports Ranch March 13-14 1:17.113
Texas World Speedway April 24-25 1:47.207
Texas World Speedway June 12-13 1:47.370
Hallet Motorsports July 31 1:20.584

These times have been confirmed on Mylaps by Me.

Troy has been really very impressed with the braking system and suspension. He was once a doubter about running a non-adjustable shock (DRM Coilovers) but after a year like that. He just laughs and enjoys not having to worry about setup. He also comments often on how NASA TX region has some damn fast cars and friendly competition to keep him coming back for more events! What is next? Well there has been some talk of wheel to wheel, and some changes to the car for next year.

Congratulation Troy from DRM for your outstanding year.

Thanks for listening to me toot a bit, don't forget we can build you one also

That's pretty cool Randy! Is he going to go to the NASA Nationals next month?

He owns a small business, so getting time off really isn't in the cards for this year.

anything close to 1:47.xx at TWS in a production based car is just plain stupid fast.

Digging this thread back up.

Ran with Troy at TWS last month and we both put down 1:41s. Track was perfect, weather was cool....

Difference is, I run a home-built gt1 car in TTU and he's still running the DRM weapon in TT1. While we both already had track record, we both lowered them this weekend.

Vid from my camaro "Scratcher" on Sunday (I ran my 41 on Saturday while Troy ran 42s).

Vid from Troy's car (chasecam vid, so the quality is not HD, but still)

(kinda wish I'd have used a sticker set of tires, but oh well...)

Cheers,

I've run in this group with Troy before my ST2 C5 took a dump and he passes me like I'm chained to a post.

There isn't anything "production" about that car except for the frame. That thing a VERY good purpose built race car driven by a VERY good driver.

After seeing him and Mike Weathers very good C5 purpose built race car, I decided to go a different direction after my car bit it.

If I'm not mistaken, the car has stock suspension attach points, factory arms and bars, and until recently had non-adjustable shocks. I looked at it on a lift and it had a lot of factory stuff on the underside. The body kit was fiberglass, so not the lightest stuff.

Yes, he ran a 1:42 or low 1:43 with TJ in the car on Saturday (when I ran a 1:41) and then he ran a 1:41 on Sunday on stickers.

Fun fun...
