Default weather stripping question

Drivers side weather stripping started sagging and flapping around at Willow Springs.

I might be able to just glue it back, but I am open to buying a new piece. The dealer (I was dropping a friend off, so I checked) wants $340 for a new piece!

What do the racers do? (no I am not open to using duct tape!)

Matt

If it's in good shape, just glue it.

They pop out very easy.

Had mine pop out & hit me in the helmet once, it's had racer tape on it ever since.

Seems that GM might have thought of the consequences of having it pop out at 100 plus mph on a track, but hey, just one of those little details.

Vendors here should have it like ZIP, MA, or Ecklers if it is shot.

Racers have better things to spend $340 on. Repair the existing weatherstrip.

Here is how:

Buy

- 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive (pn# 051135-08008)
- 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner & Wax Remover (pn# 08984)

Check with local autobody paint and supply houses. I doubt
that Pep Boys and their competitors will carry the products
but ...

Use the 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner & Wax Remover
to prepare (clean) the surfaces to be bonded and later for clean
up, if required. Obvious warnings: wear gloves, work in a well
ventilated area, avoid inhaling the fumes - no joke.

3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive comes in different colours, so
be sure to get black, not yellow.

Follow directions on the box about applying the adhesive in two steps:
  1. Apply a first coat to each side to be bonded - WITHOUT
    placing them together.
  2. Let this first coat dry then apply a second coat and join the
    parts together.
Be prepared to hold the sections in place together until they
have bonded well enough not to droop. (ie: be prepared to
stand there for a least 15 - 20 minutes applying pressure.)

Incidently, these products aren't just for major weatherstrip
repairs. They can also be used to make nearly invisible fixes
to aged weather strip that has developed cracks/fissures.
