Joe_Planet,

I think you just answered why Gary has provided the longer Grade 8 domestically produced bolts and Nordloc retainers. Your friend hit the stubborn bolt with a torch and it came right out... The reason it came right out is that locktite turns liquid at elevated temperatures and loses its ability to do its job of locking the treads.

What do you think the heat from super hot brake rotors does when it heat soaks the hub bearing and bolts holding the hub bearing to the knuckle??? Bingo, it turns the locktite to a liquid... Thus, Gary's usual, solid engineered solution of a mechanical retaining method to preclude the bolts from backing out of the hub bearing. Refer to the photos in post number 1. This is a nice upgrade Gary is providing at no upcharge vs. the other vendors selling these SKF bearings, who offer no such bolts and Nordlocs. The additional benefit is the ability to use a standard 12 pt. socket to remove and replace the bolts vs. the strip-prone Torx head bolts provided by GM.

Default Upgrading a 2010 Grand Sport

What parts would be needed to upgrade a 2010 Grand Sport to use the 2011 hubs and half shafts?

The 2010 ZR-1 or 2011 ZR-1, Z06 or Grand Sport half shafts and a set of 4 ZR-1 hub bearings.

That'll do it.

Default Upgrade

The obvious need are half shafts and hubs.

The not so obvious is:

Is the higher spline count half shaft used in the ZR1 compatible with the differential or is the spline count or size different at that end of the shaft?

Is the new sensor in the 2011 ZR1 hub compatible with the ABS system in the 2010 Grand Sport?
I still need to remember to be more specific when posting.

The spline count difference is on the hub bearing end of the half shaft. The sensor is compatible with 2010 & 2011 models.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be a smart *** when I told you what parts you would need. Hopefully, my answer above clarified your questions.

The OE Torx head bolts loosen, and the head strips out. With these you use a standard 12mm 12 point socket and they allow proper torque for greater reliability and ease of assembly and removal. Can be used many times. This kit is compatible with brake duct kits that have a 1/8 thick flange.

To order, just go here and mention that you saw the bolt kit offer on Corvetteforum.com
