Default Kumho XS 315/30/18 Rear - Any issues?

Like the title states, who runs the Kumho XS in 315/30/18 in the rear on a C5 or C5Z?

-Do the brakes lines clear ok?

-How about the rear brake duct and fender?

-What front tires are you running?

Thanks in advance!

I went ahead and ordered a set with some 275/40/17 fronts, we will see how it goes.

Anybody use these XS for street driving on a C5 Z06 or C6 Z06? I would be curious for feedback, as well as if anyone has any opinions on their suitability as an "intermediate" rain tire.

If they're anything like the MX's (I've heard they are), then they'll suck big time in the rain. They need quite a bit of heat to work, so they're terrible in the wet.

I have not tested the XS but I have tried a few different tires. The best one for all the categories listed is by far the Goodyear GS-D3. Dry grip is great, you get lots of street miles out of them, and it is by far the best street tire I have ever driven in the rain. Wet traction is outstanding! It is a great all around tire for street/trackdays/rain.

275/40r17 ~= 25.7in tall
315/30r18 ~= 25.4in tall

I just did nine laps at the Milwaukee Mile road course in the rain . Just as good as the 6 year old all season tires I had on before .17/275s

On a C5/C5Z the OP should be OK. Somewhere close to the edge but OK.

I've seen the XS tire used for autocross and works well in that environ. No idea about wet conditions.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

If I understand correctly, the TC/AH may get a bit upset by this combo, but the abs should function just fine. The car only sees the street about 10% of the time that I am in it so I am not too concerned. i really only need the abs to function properly for track use.

Am I correct that the abs functions properly regardless of tire size?

Interesting, maybe they've improved the compound. I'd like that to be true as they offer the best sizes of the current top street tires.

ABS probably (?) uses individual wheel speed sensors to do its job. TC compares F:R wheel speeds... with the smaller rear OD it'll look like the rears are turning faster than the fronts -- like they're spinning. I'm not sure if AH even considers wheel speeds...

tc/ah will be fine with this. I have run it. Also 295f/315r.

You are correct.

I ran XSs for two seasons - when tread is < 4/32, they will plane out over any amount of standing water at highway speeds. Be careful...

295/35r17 is listed at 25.1". 275/40r17 is listed at 25.7". 315/30r18 is still 25.5" according to TireRack. So the 295mm tire should be fine, the 275mm, though, is taller than the 315... or am I misinterpreting and you're saying you've successfully run the taller front tire? (And what year car?)

On my 04 c5z I have run

stock

255/295

a6's

275/315
295/315

710's

275/315
295/315

aspect ratios vary with the brands.

There is a "tolerance" built into the wheel speed computing for tc/ah.

plus/minus a certain rotation speed does NOT trigger an incident requesting tc/ah to intervene.

In my personal experience all the above are within the tolerance spec & do not cause tc/ah to intervene.

FWIW

I forgot:

315 on 18's all around

Grand Sport (coupe) rims with appropriate tires (I forget sizes) 17 inch x 9.5 and 17 inch x 11.0 all no problems.

Plus some Yoko slicks off a GT3 no prob.

I almost bought 285/17 s but the dimensions on the Khumo site said they were the same size except the 285 s were 4 # heavier .
Any thoughts ? Typo on the site ?
I did not shave mine ( tires ) btw
