Default 2010 Camaro GT-1 Build

My car builder, (Woody @ Bemco Fab) will begin construction on a new
2010 Camaro for customer Ralph Tomasso next week. The car will utilize a Howe Racing tube frame road course chassis and the new Howe
Camaro body. (similar to the Camaro Cup version in Europe but a bit wider).

The car will have a built LS3 for power, Tex T101 tranny, quick change
rear end, big Nascar road course brakes. Will have about 600 HP and
weigh around 2600# minus driver. The wheels will be CCW.

A surprisingly affordable package, and should be very reliable with the
dry sump LS3.

I would speculate that this car with the right shoe would be
capable of 1:26 or better at Road Atlanta. Would it win a TA race?
Certainly not. But still plenty fast.

Kurt Roehrig in his GTA Monte Carlo at 2930# with 100 plus less HP,
no wing, no splitter and only 10" stock car rubber went 1:28.2

I think fast enough to podium at many SCCA National races.
Lot of bang for the buck.

Right now only the LS1 is actually SCCA GT1 legal of the LS motors, however I think that will change.

How many bucks? The bare chassis looks like $3k, other Howe bodies are $3k, wing, running gear, motor, drysump, pedals, seat, etc, etc... $50k?

Looks great. I really dig the camaro body. Is it an AR body or other mfg?
I'm planning no going the road course stock car route myself next year.

The Body is also by Howe, ....ARP also makes one but has a bit of offset built in for the short track cars. Sid McDonald in Canada also
makes a straight up version. All three appear decent from photo's.

Ralph's car will get a some parts off his two stock cars, which will
lower the price.

In the area of about mid twentys, for a roller (minus engine, clutch, tranny) is probably close. But best to contact Woody. Depends on if
you go for Penske shocks or lesser, fresh rebuilt quick change or a new
Tiger or Winters. Brembo's or Wilwoods. inexpensive seat or LaJoie.
CCW's, BBS, or stock car steel wheels.

I picked up a tex T101 box by DEI fresh with the DEI shifter recently for 1400. There are deals out there right now on motors and everything
in between.

contact for Woody
Bemcofab at yahoo dot com.

I've seen photos of the camaro cup bodies. They look the best, but I was under the impression they did not fit the typical stock car chassis. Howe doesn't show anything on thier site.
What wheelbase and track is the above car going with?
Using howe clips?

The body pictured is the US version and fits the Howe road circuit chassis. The Camaro Cup chassis Howe also builds is a bit different
because they use some different components.

The US version is wider to accomodate wider wheels.

I think the US Version is built on a 108 inch but I'll check when I
see Chaz Howe at the PRI show in Orlando next week.

For my first GT 1 build, I am looking for reliability over being a front running car. I have two stock cars with an sb2 (725hp) and a D series Rousch (840hp) motor that I would always need a full crew with me at the track (due to my lack of mechanical skills).

What are the power plant choices of the front running cars in GT1?

To win in Trans Am you need an 800 plus HP SB2 or Ford Cup motor.

But as before, they really need a motor tuner there to keep those running correctly, and they don't go many hrs before needing rebuilds.
For the club racer, the LS motors are fast, far less costly to maintain,
and above all fun and easy to race.

I think I'll worry about that when I get to that point! Worse case scenario, I have them when I need them.
