Default Good Street Class Tires?

Hey guys. I just put some new tires on the car. The rears are Falken rt-615 315/35r18 and the fronts are Michelin Pilot Sport 255/35r18. The fronts arent new (6/32nd of tread left) but I hooked up with a shop that sells me hi-perf tires that are at least 50-60%. The PS2s I wanted were gone but I was wondering how these Michelin PS would hold up at the track, especially on a street tire class? Also I know the Flakens are a good track tire but was wondering what some of your experiences have been if youve used these tires? Thanks.

I run street tires in HPDE. So far I have had Mich Pilot Sports, Nitto NT05s and Firestone wide ovals.

The NT05's were the best grip wise and didn't get greasy. The firestones are decent for the first 10 min then start getting greasy. The Pilot Sports (not PS2) was like driving on ice but that is probably more to thier age hardening then the tire itself.

There are alot of other good options also for street tires. No matter which ones you get you are not going to come close to the grip of an R compound though.

If your talking about autocross I see alot of people running the Kuhmo exsta XS with good results.

Thnx. Yeah I heard the Pilot Sports get hard as they get old. Gotta look into those Kuhmos.

I guess mostly max life. Enough grip to be competitive yet that will last long enough to drive from home tyo the track for multiple sessions.

Firstly, I wouldn't mix/match tires like that.

The RT-615s will grease up once they get heat in them on track. They are better for auto-x; unless they changed the compound. That's where the NT-05 comes in. Designed to compete directly with the RT-615s and NOT grease up.

I've ran Goodyear GSD3's on my 2002 Camaro SS before and I liked the feeling they had, but I prefer NT-01's...which won't give you good longevity wear. The NT-05's are supposed to be awesome tires..

I've run R888s on my 86 and am happy with the grip and consistancy. We've run RT-615Ks on our 24 Hours of Lemons car and was surprised at the grip, though by the end of the 2nd race they were sliding around. That was around 1300 miles of racing though and they still have tread.
You might considering getting an extra set of wheels and running R compounds. I've run A6s on my 86 and they're much stickier than the Toyos.

there's no comparison between R888 and A6's, they aren't even in the same category. I've ran on R888's and really don't care for them at all

I've yet to find anything better for driving to/from and at an event, though...

Ecsta XS tires on the Z now . I'v bin tracking the vette the last
couple of months now and have no complaints with the Kumhos.
Are you tracking the vette or drag racing ? If your tracking it'
you mighht think about the Corvette Challenge. Great people and
great fun. BTW Leo is there to .
Good luck Tris

Well I'll see how long these tires last me but I'll be looking for the Nittos or he Kuhmo X next. Thanks for th einput guys. I did go canyon carving the other day and these tires did feel great and freeway onramps are way more fun but I know the abuse of the track is another story.

Hey Tris! Good to hear from you. I want to track the car and the Corvette Challenge is deffinately on the radar. Hope to see you there soon.
