What thickness do we get for the rear? How do we install this? As you can see, I want one, but know nothing about it.

In the SCCA GCR they say 6mm (1/4") for the windshield, and 3mm (1/8") for the rear or side windows -- it seemed consistent across at least GT, ST and Prod. The NASA CCR says 3/16" for the windshield and doesn't specify for anything else that I can see.

There're a bunch of ways to install it depending on what you order and what you want. You can use adhesive like the stock windows, or fasteners. On some vehicles you can replace the entire `frame' or hatch with just the polycarb to save even more weight... not useful to your FRC, I don't think...

you can bolt it in with SS countersunk flat heads and counter suck conical washers.. My rear hatch is 3/16" on my coupe which is a lot bigger than you Z

Just bolt or rivet the rear in. For the front you will need reinforcement....I made aluminum channel

What kind of weight savings are we talking about? Windshield and rear glass on a Z06/FRC?

you will have to trim the lexan to fit it is not an exact copy of your glass.

I don't know specifics for a Z06/FRC but on the coupe I saved 27lbs.

These things are usually very expensive 350$ or more

I made my own. $83 and that was for a coupe. Z06 would be less.
Before I removed the rear glass I made a template using butcher paper.
Then went to my favorite hardware store and bought a sheet of 3mm/1/8" Lexan and cut it out from my template with a jig saw.

As John said, do a little trimming and it's a perfect fit.

I riveted mine in. Lighter than using any other type of fastener.

I ordered one from Racing Shields. The company "DavidFarmer" recommended. 1/8" cut to fit. They were very helpful on the phone. Should have it in a couple of weeks. I'll let you guys know what happens.

thanks,

Steve A.

IIRC OEM C5 front glass is ~36 lb, Z06 is 30 lb, rear Z06 is ~20 lb

how hard is it to heat/bend lexan???? I've never tried it. I know the Shields winshields can be purchased with chip and fog protection, but for the rear who cares.

Bump... the idea of getting a sheet of lexan for the rear from the hardware store and cutting it to fit has my attention. When installing with a rivet is there any worry about cracking the plastic? Any tips?

Yes. Whatever method you choose to install allow the piece to float somewhat.
