Hoosier New Radial Slick vs A6s
Wanted to see if anybody has any first hand experience with these. I read Kent's comments when he tested and it didn't seem to yield a much better result. Curious to see if anybody else has tried.
I'm comparing the R80 (softer compound) vs regular A6. Let me know if you've ever compared, tried, etc.
Thanks!

A6s will be much faster from the get go lap 1. But may give up a bit as the race goes on.
the R80s have great grip but do take a lap or two to get heat in and will last much longer.
for HPDEs the R80s may be a better choice. For races the A6s

I felt a narrower R80 was almost as fast as a wider A6, as a side note when I put my car in the Wall on the first lap of qualifing I was on R80s. I really didn't allow time for them to get heat in them as I normally run A6s

Sounds like ultimate speed is basically the same. My power to weight does allow it, but no sense in spending extra money for same speed (this is for TT).

Basically since in TT the best lap either happens in lap 1 or 2 if you are playing correctly and everything is right, the Hoosier A6 is THE tire to have IMHO....The car typically will not be any better than on lap 1...

I wouldn't do it for TT, the big question is after 40 minutes of racing what is faster a A6 with more HP or a R80 with a power hit

Neither would I in TT....racing different story. As far as ST2 goes, my only data point would be that in July in Forbis' car I was able to run the track record on the very last lap trying to fend off Norm Goldridges Porsche. If the A6 is capable of this on the last lap of a 30 minute race in 90+ degree temperature , I think that in ST2 I would stay on the A6....ST1 may be a different story as the extra 150-200 rwhp heats the rear tires up alot more during a race..Jury is out on ST1 tires.

Cool. Thanks for all the feedback!
And Danny, why were you racing Norm? Isn't he in SU with an 800 hp Porsche??? Or is he running something different in ST2 now?

That .75 lbs/hp Slick hit is not right. If you compare it to the weight table its crazy. 3200lbs car to get the same hit as .75 tires 1750lbs-1650 lbs.? Thats what the chart says. I would rather drive a 1650lbs car if I could. It forces us all to run $1400 A6s that last a weekend maybe to be competitive.

Mike E. and I started at the end of the grid that day because we didn't qualify in the rain. At the start of the race Mike went off and punctured a tire and I passed the 15 ahead of me in 1.2 laps including Norm .....led the whole race until Norm had clawed his way back up and then he throttled me (literally) on the last lap for the overall win .....Would have been nice to take the overall, but we still got the tires

This weekend at Sebring was an exercise in slicks versus DOT's. Temps in the high 60's for the Saturday sprint race. Over the course of the first 10 minutes, David opened up a 8 second gap over three cars that qualified almost 2 full seconds ahead of us. Then the Hoosiers started to give up, and they started to reel us in. Unable to hold them off, we lost the 3 spots with less than 2 laps to go.
Important to note, these cars were on Michelin slicks, which by all accounts will yield significantly faster lap times than Hoosier slicks.
Every single car that finished in front of us was on Michelin slicks.

Funny, our intention was just that. We had the tire guys bring us a set of R100's. We had a couple of issues with the new diff and a brake caliper, so we never got the slicks mounted.
