Measuring off the hubs for alignment - setup question
I'd like to fab up something that will attach to the front & rear hubs so that when I string the car I don't need to keep trying to hold a ruler in the same place on each corner.
Has anyone come up with something for C5Z?
Or some shop sell something?
Thanks.

if you are using the skf splined hubs in front which most of us racers are using a cool thing would be to get a wiped out rear axle and canibalize the outboard stub axle and cut a slot in it to hold a ruler. The you could slide the stubaxle right into the front hub to measure your thrust. BTW in the old days strings were the hot ticket. I tried that but strings kind of sag and it is not that easy to measure say a point on the hub to the string without moving / touching the string then messing up the readings. It si so much easier to buy a 90 degree measuring angle and cut it to fit the lip of your rear wheels and just shoot your laser level off that.

I don't do it this way anymore, but it works really well.
A thin metal yardstick fits nice and snug into the stock front hubs (cut it down so it doesn't sag) and it has measurements already printed on it. Just wedge it in there and leave it.
I used a laser with an attachment that made the laser go vertical, but you can just hold a regular laser on a straight edge against the rear tire at the same height. You can see in these pictures that the thrust was off just a smidge.

Take a look at these 2 products a little pricey but a couple of us around here are thinking about going in together to reduce the cost

Another method is to get some magnetic hubs like these for the front wheels:
JOES RACING Magnetic Adaptor #28010
String your vette and measure the distances--keep those measurements. Then get a 12 ft gal 1/2 pipe from Lowes or HD and cut to wheel base length, weld 90 deg legs that are the above measurements, mark them R/L and F/B, and then support with jack stand. Makes duplication very easy. Total cost about $ 110.
If you have a magnetic camber gauge, you can unbolt that hub and only buy one of the above and save $50.
