Default Lightweight Stock C5 Wheels

Other than CCW, are there any other options for race wheels in stock C5 sizes (17x8.5 and 18x9.5)? I'm trying to figure out my options for A Stock autocross wheels. I have no problem with CCW, I'm just curious if there are some lighter/stiffer options out there in those sizes. Thanks.

I won't use the stock thin spokes, they have been known to crack. C5 Z06 wheels would be a better bet.

He can't run C5 Z wheels in the A/Stock autocross. He needs 17x8.5 and 18x9.5 sizes. The Z wheels are 9.5 in the front and 10.5 in the back and that's not legal for a non Z...

You want the export mags.

The mag wheels and the thin spokes are virtually the same weight: about 17lbs front, 20lbs rear.

There's nothing wrong with the thin spokes, there are plenty of pictures of cracked Z06 rims too. Very unlikely to ever happen to the OEM rims on an autox car.

The guy I am co-driving with had an OE C5 thin spoke crack.

I have never seen an OE Z06 wheel damaged that did not take a hit of some type - that does not mean it has never happened. But lots of AFS (5-spoke ZR1/GS knock-offs) and OE thins spokes have failed from autox/track use.

Jason, my point being that any wheel can crack, but on a dedicated autox set of tires (with A6s mounted) that are not driven on the street they have little chance of cracking short of either hitting something or your tire changer damaging them when they crack the bead. That's all.

My bet is if they failed at an autox event then there was something wrong with them before the event that showed up during the event. No need to scare the world away from using them at an autocross event. Just check them before you dedicate them to autox use. IMHO

I also believe those thinking of running AS class in a C5 shouldn't be detered by thinking the thin spokes will crack on them and to be competitive you'll need "hard to find" magnesium export wheels. The thin spokes weigh about the same and will hold up just fine at an autocross as long as the owner checks them for damage a couple of times a year, which they should be doing for any rim....

IIRC, the wagon wheels are around the same weight as the C5Z wheels (slightly more) but they are easy to find

Not sure on the weight, but wagon wheels are strong & cheap. I picked up a set to use the rears (18") on the front of my car for a square setup with scrub yoko slicks (gt3 spec tires) when I had a source to get them.

Personally I know of and have seen quite a few thin spokes that cracked, I think the incidence is higher than other Vette rims. I believe there is a "thicker" version of the original thin spoke that is stronger.

Kodiak wheels is like CCW and they make custom race wheels. I looked at a set used in OEM sizes to run rains on, but they sold before I could get them

I use the early C5 wagon wheels as well, rears are 9.5" x 18" and weigh 21 lbs.- 6 oz. cleaned and with a valve stem installed.

Not sure what the fronts weigh, I don't have any.

Good, strong, low cost option

I have year 2000 thin spokes with DWs for rain and a set of mags with A6's. Mags are each 1.0 lb lighter front, 1.4 lb lighter rear. They are not that hard to find. BTW, I've read that there are thin spokes and thinner spokes, with the thinner ones coming out first, then changed. Don't know which I have.... never run across the actual measurements and not even sure if it is really true.

Confused by this also. They mags were actually imported from Italy.
