I just Non-Op'ed my Z06...
Yesterday the day finally came for me to Non-Op my 2002 Corvette Z06. After 5 years, 3 months and 6 days of ownership I decided it was finally time to take the Z off the street. Here's how she currently looks:
As you can see, it's not exactly a street car anymore. Between the hassle of trying to get "friendly" smogs (with the high compression 427 on E85 and no cats there's no hope of passing sniffer even if I could get somebody to overlook the visual), the danger of driving around on the street with a full cage and no helmet on, and the constant police attention (the fire Halon bottle is often mistaken for a nitrous bottle to the uninitiated) I decided it didn't make sense to keep her on the street anymore. The upside is with the money I save getting a "smog", registering it, and paying for street-car insurance it just about covers real track insurance with the appropriate liability to protect myself should something happen on course, as well as replacing the car at an agreed value (as opposed to just getting blue book which obviously wouldn't cover rebuilding the car).
It was a sad day, but now I can move past all the compromises of a street/track car. Right away I'm going to ditch the side-windows, headlights, and a few other things that were only on the car still for street use. Over the next few seasons it'll probably get real aero as well (I never wanted to put a wing on it when it was a street car, no Fast & The Furious for me). Downside is I no longer have a fast street car. Maybe I'll mod my Duramax to be quick, or get my Galant VR4 going again... or better yet maybe it's old school time!

I just made the decision to take my C4 off the street as well. I know how it feels to miss the cool street car, but ill probably still buzz the car around the block occasionally for fun.

That truck and trailer in the background look familiar heh
I think the tradeoff you are making is wise, especially when adding in the car replacement value. That thing is a beast and worth too much vs book.
I know people that can help with the Duramax when it comes time.
Just know that there are events run in the rain, so losing the side windows might be bad heh
Enjoy it man, you have been building it a long time

WOW!!! Very good looking track package! How big is that ARE tank? Looks like it could hold 12 to 15qts. Please fill me in on the insurance you get on your car.... this is something I should look into.
I'm on that slippery slope as well. I bought this Z06 with the intension of making it a track only car....... With that said and only doing TT this year and not moving to W2W till next year I can't get myself to chop the interior yet I know this will be inevitable and I should do it and have the cage installed now but heck it only has 3,000 miles on it Besides it will be a good project for next winter Regardless this car will not see the street as long as I own it.

G
