Default Size of jamb nuts on C6 rear toe links

Hi all,

I'm starting to tinker with the new C6, and I need to buy some new wrenches. Anyone know the size of these jamb nuts? Is the car a combo of standard & metric fasteners?

Appears to be close to a 21 mm...I know this because I have 20- and 22-mm wrenches!!

Also, do you guys grease the outer end on a regular basis, as per owners manual?

Thanks!

It doesn't matter what size it is, you just need to invest in metric tools for now and especially for the future. I have had almost all the bolts off my Z and so far I have not found any American Inch-spec bolts. All metric. However, GM likes to use some non-standard metric sizes such as a 16mm head rather than the normal 15 or 17mm. The only wierd bolts that I have come upon are the head bolts. What is up with that? They are bigger than a 10mm but smaller than a 12mm. They have a standard 1.75 pitch thread but could they actually be 11mm? Any body able to chime in?

I've got quite a few metric tools already, just not combination wrenches in the larger sizes, so I have to buy them piecemeal. The Vette is the first American car I've owned (9th car overall).

For a C5 and all C6s, the Tie rod is a 13mm and the Jamb nut is a 7/8". Don't ask me why, they just are. The accentrics are 21mm.
How do I know this? I align between 200 and 350 Corvettes each and every year and have for the last 5 years (before that it was like 50 to 100).

Could you answer a quick couple of questions for me? Are the front steering rods (tie rods) replaceable? How about the rear toe rods? What are the thread sizes and pitches?

Yes they are all replaceable. As far as size and pitches, you are on your own. I've never measured them. Sorry.

Awesome information....thank you very much!

One more question: I'm looking to get about -2 degrees camber up front, and maybe -1.0 to -1.2 degrees in the back. Is this amount possible through factory adjustments, or do you have to take other measures? Thanks in advance!!

I have been able to attain those numbers on C6Z, but I don't see that we have ever tied to get that much in the rear of a regular C6.

Sidebar:
Unless you are really fast on Racing compound tires, IMHO it might be a bit much to run that much neg camber unless you are confirming the reasonability of those setting with pyrometer readings.

guess GM had some old hardware or may be they think everyone will have one of each. Crazy to me to have 7/8" on a car totally metric. Back in the 80 or 90's yes but now?
fractional decimal mm
7/8 " 0.8750 22.2250

Well I think that it is that this tie rod end has been used for years successfully, dating back to the metric and standard cars.
