Default Is 2011 C6R SMG transmission?

I expect that this is a SMG with paddle shifters but not sure.

I think it's just a new shift mechanism; they had a sequential gearbox in the car previously, too.

Thanks gkmmcready.

I guess SMG was the wrong term given that it's no longer manual but would have computer controlled clutches.

I wonder if any other cars in GT2 are using the same transmission (Xtrac?).

I'm pretty sure the Ferrari 458 has paddle shifters since ferrari doesn't even make a manual gearbox any more and probably why they were approved for all GT cars this year. Anyone know if the 430 had paddle shift?

I don't know how they're doing it in the GT cars, but Daytona Prototypes, whether the paddle-shifted ones (with Pro Am drivers) or regular sequential units, do not have electronically controlled clutches. The linkage mechanically moves the dog rings in the gearbox, and the "clutching" is actually some combination of a spark cut, fuel cut, or ignition retard that depowers the engine for milliseconds, allowing the gear clusters to unload enough to slip into the next gear. The spark/fuel cut or ignition retards typically last for 50-75 milliseconds, depending on the gear ratio split.

DP clutches are only used in pit lane. If you try to clutch shift one of the DP sequential gearboxes, you'll tear up the clutch in a matter of laps.

Paddle shifters are allowed this year in GTE class by the ACO regulations; they were not allowed for the GT1/2 class previously

CorvetteZ51Racer, thanks for the education.

I remembered a video on the C6 Forum...
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...e-shifter.html

Looks like 2011 C6R is the mechanical system you describe based on what Binks and Fehan have said.

Yes and so do the P cars. Corvette was late to the dance
