Default another street tire question, sorry!

Ok, sorry to post this as there are way too many street tire questions, but I'm stuck on this one... I'm taking my camaro to a muscle car track day and the rules are for a 200 treadwear tire. Fronts are easy- 245/45/17, lots of selection, My problem is my rear tire (255/50/17) is only available in a few makes, of them that I know of the better tires are the BFG-KDWS (all season, 400 treadwear) or Nitto 555 (not 555r2) 300 treadwear, or Nitto Invo 260 treadwear.

I've tracked the 555's when I first started tracking my c5, they felt pretty good. Anyone have any experience on those vs Invo's? I've heard some posts say the invo's are mushy, but they were somewhat sticky? Unfortunately the NT05's, PS2, etc are not available in anything close to my sizes. thanks- Dan

Are you sure you wouldn't be able to mount the Nitto NT-05 255/40/17 on the front and the 275/40/17 on the rear? They would probably do better than the other tires you are considering. I use the NT05s on my Z. In some cases they aren't quite as good as the worn out EMTs I had on it but in other cases they are the same or better. They will talk to you quite a bit in a turn and the corner workers at the next turn will know you are coming before they see you. They seem to wear really well but they do stink. I mean stink. If you park your car in the garage the first time the wife goes in there she will have you out looking for the fresh pile of dog crap she will swear is in the garage.

good thought Bill, let me check... the 275 rear makes in on a 69 camaro but I'm not sure on the 68... they would look a bit small that's for sure. I can possibly borrow some off my friends c4 to mockup, the backpace is wrong but it might help. The main reason I was thinking of the exact sizes I'm running on the car now is the KDWS rears are shot so I need to at least buy rears, I would rather not have an extra set of tires for the track for this car too. I think I have more rims and tires around than shoes at this point. (already 2-3 sets for every car!)

That is what I was thinking, step up to a 275. Or, you could just step down to a 245 and run a square setup. Too bad you can't run the Kumho XS tires as they are a 180 treadwear.
