Default Smart Phones & racing apps who has what?

I have been thinking for a while about video capture & some overlay data but the prices are pretty steep for good units.

They practically give away these phones w/gps & video & I think some have accelerometer?

Who is using & how do you like it? Post a sample.

For casual use, I know there will always be some compromise & features lacking compared to the real thing, but still.

Harry's LapTimer is pretty sweet. Lots of pre-mapped track POIs, video overlay, option to add a more accurate GPS antenna (I use a 2nd hand Tom Tom car kit that Harry recommends). I use it with my iPhone 4 and it works well for amateur purposes & having fun.

Here's an example of the video overlay feature.

i use Harry's for last 12 months.. the Iphone 4 works great and records video every other lap.. so it 50:50 if it gets my offs.... LOL

GPS is more accurate than IP3 so no Tomtom needed for me.
Corvette is fiberglass and does not interferr
i use a Rammount $24 for the window mount...

Haven't used any overlay data yet as like DRUGschnorr said, they seem to not be all that reliable yet. The video capture is quite nice though. I got the Satechi CR-3600 windshield mount. Works great!

Video, really? Every other lap? What up with that? Window mount on the track, no problems? I didn't think that was allowed. Interesting!

Both Hary's and Trackpro work great on the iPhone4. Trackpro does a complete video but no overlay. Harry's does video every other lap with overlay

The app needs time to process the HD video. The timer works on every lap. I put mine at the top of the windshield with a RocketFish mount. No GPS booster. It didn't detect the start/finish trigger a few times, but it worked well overall.

OK, I'm in! Ordered the Tomtom mount and Harry's Laptimer for my iPhone 4. I wonder if Thunder Hill is one of the mapped tracks. I should be at the track next weekend. We'll give it a shot and post when I get something.

You might want to try a RipXX and HD Hero combo. It doesn't do overlays although their are some PC apps that will do them. You will get more accurate data and better video.

Both will do a typical trackday's capture on a single charge so you don't have to mess with cords.

The iPhone 4's higher accuracy GPS mode requires that it be connected to power.

not 100 % sold on the TomTom mount yet (Harry's recommended piece). Doesn't seem to be charging as my iphone 4 only lasts a half day or so. I guess the antenna boost works - but dont know how to tell for sure.
Same problem with missing start / finish triggers occasionally. Haven't figured out how to do the overlay to video yet either.
