Please do.... curious how you know where to set them? I've never dealt with bump-steer adjustments.

Good question... dunno, I just use DEI cool tape on all of that stuff.

Pretty much It makes me chuckle that a former World Challenge racer like David is being referred to that thread.

me to on DEI tape!

I know a lot of time was put into the post and some is good but some is really not fact or even good advice. How long has the author been at race cars?

That's like asking Mario Andretti if he has read Indy for dummies.

That would be great David, maybe start a new thread.

IMO just set the pin height = the stock part unless the customer is lowered a lot.

Replying to nobody in particular, but I think for the most part Zenak has good info in his thread. We all disagree on some stuff (anti sieze on lugs or clean & dry).

Would the shape and taper on the pin determine where you have to set it? What if the shape is different on the new part?

I "think" it's just different thickness shims (washers).

I would assume the taper on the pin is a stock/fixed dimension.

I disagree with you both. You don't use anti-seize. You use moly.

David can you please post up your thoughts after you've installed this thing. Also: do they use a standard rod end that I can buy from aurora or whomever, or do I have to go to Zip to get replacements.

Clearly you don't know these things yet, I'd just like to know

that is the plan.... if he wants me to experiment with it at the track, I'm happy to, but right now just trying to button up an alignment job!

btw, the rod ends are probably standard sizes, it's the adapter and the tapered end/shims that would be custom. I'll know if a day or two.

Pardon my ignorance but what did you see besides the melted rubber that the tie rods needed to be replaced? Were there cracks etc?

Got the ZIP Bump Steer kit in, and I'm initially impressed. For the price of 2 Moog Tie Rod ends, you get a kit with approx 1" of bump steer adjustment, and it uses a standard Arora rod end, so service is cheap ($15 ???)

Anyway, the taper is on the main shaft, and you adjust the shaft in the rod end with 4 shims. Since a full BS adjustment isn't part of this job, I'll just be setting them near stock (unless it visibly would benefit from a minor adjustment). Hopefully at some point I can make track-side adjustments with the car owner and get feed back as well.

Thanks David! Do you know if the rod end is metric or standard?

Arora VCM-10 Right hand 5/8X5/8-18 Male Rod End w/ Teflon

$12.75 at Irvan-Smith Inc

I'll probably still put a thermal "boot" around the bearing just to be safe, although ZIP tells me they should handle the heat OK.
