Default Beginner needs advise

Guys,

I just purchased a set of TSW Nurburgring wheels since they are .5 wider than stock I am going to add a set of 305/30/19 & 265/35/18. I am done with the runcraps. I am going to use these for general weekend drives and a couple HPDE one at Walkins Glen at the end of the month and VIR in May then we will see if I am going to continue HPDE. I have done 2 other events and not that great but learning. Hopefully I can get the season out of these tires and if I am going to continue HPDE I will be ready for some dot tires after this. Wheel specifics:

(2) 17x9.0 TSW Nurburgring +50 offset
(2) 18x10.5 TSW Nurburgring +65 offset

Here is the question on tire rack the more reasonable tires that I see are Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 for $1322.00 score 9.0, Continental ExtremeContact DW for $1026.00 score 8.5 and Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110 for $826.00 score 7.9. Here is my thought the Hankook got to be better then the OEM runflats and hate to spend more when they are going to get chewed up at the 1st HPDE I do. The runcrap chucked up after the 1st event and they were finsihed off in the 2nd event.

Does anyone have any track experience with any of these tires and road experience? Thoughts would really like to stay under $1,000 and want the wider wheels.

Bridgestones are designed with double-duty track/autocross and DD in mind and are in a different league than the others you listed.

You are right--anything is better than a runflat. For your use I'd get the best dry traction tire that you can. They will last a while if you just do a few HPDE and if you can rotate the fronts. A symmetrical tire like the Nitto Nt05 (or R-II...but that's not really a street tire like you want) are really nice because you can dismount the tire after some wear on the insides and then put a fresh footprint on the inside. For performance, you don't want to HPDE these if more than 2 years old. So don't plan on keeping much longer than 2 years, all driving combined. Also--pays to call tirerack and ask them to read the date codes on the tires and give you the newest/freshest available.

Great advise. So what is the deal with 2 year old rubber. The runflats were 4 years old about 10,000 miles when I first tried HPDE

4 year old rubber is crap. It just won't stick. Ok for the daily commute to work, not ok if you want to use 1st gear in a 400 ft-lb car. On the road course I'd be scared to use the left foot out of the corners.

2 years is a rule of thumb. Do 2 years of HPDE and then as the 3rd year is underway, replace. Then you've replaced every 2 1/2 almost 3 years. If you drive the car 8000 mi/yr that's 24000 which is about worn out anyway.

the softer the tire, the better the grip and the less the mileage the tires get.
8,000 miles is far more then what any performance tire can handle. Really can not go on millage, but heat cycles.

Age kills performance tires too. Older tires just do not have as much grip. Older being two years or more

Look at Nittos as well.

your tire sizes aren't matching your wheel sizes. What am I missing?

Stock C5 Z06 wheels are 17x9.5 and 18x10.5.
