Race car interior/cage painting questions...
Looking for a durable/simple solution to paint my interior and cage gloss white. What works best?
1. Rattle-can using one of the "tougher" brands
2. Traditional base/clear out of a gun
3. Single stage out of a gun
4. Other
I'm considering using a spray gun and laying down some basic primer and then single-stage gloss white.
I'll probably wipe everything down with prep-solve and give the painted areas of the chassis a light scuff-sand.
Any issues getting paint to stick the the composite tub or anything? Any tips/tricks?
The roof will be off my car so it should be a fairly straight forward job. I plan on paiting the underside of the roof panel and the insides fo the door shells too.

Melting Slicks
I know some subaru guys that have brushed POR15 on their cages with great success. Since its so thick, it finishes out flat and glossy and you can't really see the brush strokes. Can't imagine anything this side of rhinoliner being better than POR15.

Now that is some real tough stuff I love all their products and my garage is full of them. Some vendors charge 1200 to paint a cage when being installed.

I was thinking about just painting the door shells, inside of roof, trans tubnnel, and the cage itself. Would probably leave the stock floor and the rear tub alone the more I think about it.

rustoleum is fair tough after it hardens a week. 6 cans for primer and paint and your done. If you are painting the whole car interior a gun would be better with Imron but you need good air system to feed a helmet or you die!

I did all this work and used automotive exterior paint plus a clear coat, even baked it in a paint oven...it looked awesome until I used it once.
Just make sure you cover all bare metal so it doesn't rust and don't worry about it. It looks like crap in less than a season.

I plan on doing mine flat black with no primer. The paint will stick fine to any surface that has been sanded or scuffed. Its not a show car, why worry about a smooth finish or fixing imperfections. Two simple coats of just color will be fine, primer is just adding work.
