Default C5 Z06 brake question

I have the stock calipers and my last track day put on new Hawk pads and rotors. So now I'm checking everything over and find the left front pads are worn over half way and tapered bad while the right front looks great worn normally and not tapered. From what I've read I need to replace the calipers to correct the taper. One question is it normal for one side to wear differently than the other side? Also where is the best place to buy stock replacement calipers?

Thanks!

I've been running the Hawk HP plus pads with stock calipers and rotors for years without issue. Start by checking your caliper pins for proper lubrication, freedom of movement and excess wear.

Agree with the above statement check the guide pins make sure they are not bound up and lubricated properly. Also take a look at the caliper make sure it is not spread .... Generally you can find new / used ones on here or just check with some of the online vendors usually some good deals...

Don't bother buying used calipers. They probably are spread and tired too.

The C5 calipers, under racing conditions, are really only good for about 3-6 events depending on how hard you push. When you get ready to replace them, bolt on the C6 calipers. They fit right on there, but the outside part of the caliper is a few millimeters thicker so it doesn't suffer the spreading problem that the C5 caliper does. They will last significantly longer and are about the same price.

The C6 rotors are also a bit better (thicker) and won't crack as often. They cost a bit more, but will last longer, so it's a better value.

Rockauto.com is a good place to buy just about all these parts. Jeff Kopp (parts manager) at Superior Chevy gives really good prices for all the Vette racers too.

Picked up the C6 calipers from GMpartseast.com...think I paid 127.00 or 137.00 each plus shipping.

I re-lube my slide pins between each track weekend.... check those first. As said, the C6 caliper body is stiffer, but I can't run them for TTA/PTA since it's a part off of a newer model.

Thanks guys I'm gonna change them out but didn't think of the sliders sticking that's good to know down the road. I want to keep the car stock so I can run TTA down the road.

Why change the calipers when it may just be dry slide pins? Your calipers won't be spread unless you've been racing the car at a pro level pushing extremely hard.

Fix the simple stuff first and work from there.

Measure the calipers before you just toss them out.

I lube the caliper pins/sliders with anti-seize and don't have any problems. Never saw that special caliper lube before. You always keep anti-seize around when you own a car built with lots of aluminum.
