It also hauls my 2 boys in car seats no problem.
Lets work something out.

It says it has a cowl hood, but isn't the one pictured the stock HD hood? Just curious... beautiful truck.
I just bought an '08 Titan crew cab 4x2 with 42k miles on it for $16.5k in October and felt like I got a sreamin' deal. This shouldn't last long at that price.

I bought my 09Z from a guy pretty 'close' to you in MI. It's FLAT out there. I'm looking for a tow rig and I would be encountering some farily decent and long grades getting to some of the tracks in CA. Wouldn't you want the 4.10's? I've not towed previously so I'd appreciate any edumacation you might throw my way. Thx.

With the NV4500, you have a granny 1st gear. With no load it is easiest just to start in 2nd (with both 4.10s and 3.42s). So if you were to pull something heavy enough, you would still have it to use. Even with the 3.42s I found myself starting in 2nd by accident with no issues.
The 3.42s made the truck way more civil in around town driving also. With 4.10s you were always shifting (a slow process w a truck trans). I would use 5th gear on a 25mph road! The 3.42s allowed holding a gear to a higher mph, using the torque better.
In short the truck was engineered around having an auto. I knew this would work anyway as 1/2 tons come w 3.42s and even 3.23s from the factory (same size tire). Plus my father-in-law has a 2500 Dodge w a Hemi, same NV4500 (5-speed), similar tire size, and factory 3.55 gears. So it wasn't a huge leap.
As far as incline goes, with a manual you have the option of just going down a gear. Using 3rd w 3.42s works out to about the same mechanical advantage as 4th w 4.10s. With an auto I could see this downshifting and lack of gear ratio choices being a problem. But with 5 gears to choose from and stay in if need be, you are good.
This is actually the same logic I have (and apparently GM did) on keeping a 3.08 gear in my C4. That was the common ratio for manual trans D44s in C4s. Need a deep ratio, hold 2nd where a 4.10 would use 3rd, and so on. This way you have the deep overdrive and high speed capability before using overdrive. Holding a gear or downshifting is easy enough, but once you are out of gear ratios and usable rpms, you are done (the case w to low a ratio).
Kinda long winded but , in short, I am very happy w the mod. Way easier and fun to drive - still towed great!
