Default Anyone lighten their C5Z trunk lid?

Sucker is heavy.... anyone cut it up some? What'd you do? Pics?

I was thinking you could cut the underside all out other than the part that bolts to the hinges and secure it with pins or something like that?

Halltech used to make a CF trunk lid... but of course it costs $$$.

Spending $1000 on a trick CF part to save 5-10lbs isn't worth it.

Cutting up the part I already have to save 5-10lbs for free.... worth it.

Good point... I'm sick in that I'm always on the look out for stuff to make out of CF.

No hinges and splitting the decklid will work. Mine split in my last wreck. The outside is like a skin on the underside. You can spit it off. Those hinges are heavy. Other cool thing is that removing it would be easier with pins if you wing the back. Any wing that works should generate in the 300lb zone and be mounted to the frame rails which you have easy access to on the inside of the tub.

I think it only saved 1lb. If you take out all the underside, you will probably get exhaust fumes in the car.

Steve,
split off the underside so that all you see is the white part in your pic. Then get rid of the hinges too and pin the decklid skin. I bet there is more like 10lbs there.

I saw a couple of C5 FRCs that had the deck lid hinges drilled out. There were enough holes in each flat piece of the hinge there almost wasn't anything left but they still worked as hinges.

I swapped mine to a CF lid that weights ~3lbs (think I paid like $300 for it). Got to trash the entire stock lid, hinges, and locking latch...pretty sure it saved over 20lbs.
