Default Torque tube gone bad.

On my way home from racing 12 autocross laps, I noticed my car felt kind of funny. Like free play between on the brakes, then back on the gas. This is what A&A Corvette found.

Oof. Looks like you might have some trouble transitioning from on to off throttle with that kind of damage!

Now might be a good time to think about a carbon fiber drive shaft. Here is a link to some more info on the stronger, lighter, and more durable carbon fiber piece that eliminates the guibos all together: Pfadt Racing Carbon Fiber Drive Shaft

Never really thought about this before, but does anyone believe that due to being in lower gears in an autocross (and maybe more abrupt throttle/brake/throttle transitions) that it could be harder on the car than road racing?

Not on the driveshaft I don't think so. Its before the transmission, so it has the same torque applied in every gear. Vs say an fbody where the driveshaft sees a lot more torque in 1st than in 5th.

WOW - you really got lucky to make it back without a catastrophic failure. That is about the worst mess I have seen on a torque tube.

mine looked exactly the same...plus i broke a few bolts.. i felt it too and caught it before it killed the tube. this is normal, those rubber bushings are only good for 5 years tops. bought two BMW ones and popped it back together.
(was a bit tougher than that )

thanks to all that helped!

Ugh that looks like fun... glad it didn't cause more collateral damage than that.

Nice Steve! I think you can rebuild those couplers with a little glue and lots of patience .

I would think yes. In autox you usually stay in 2nd gear with a lot of full throttle/closed throttle torque on the shaft from both ends, engine torque and drag from the low 2nd gear.

I think there is less torque applied in the higher gears of track. But it's probably mostly to do with how many "cycles" the shaft goes thru.

I drove to VIR 13-14 hours each way and the same thing happen to me. I missed most of the two days I went for.

Second time I went to VIR the clutch went after a day.
