Default 2012 F1 Calender

Looks like it will be a hot one down in Austin on June 17th. At least we get F1 back.

Hot one is right....I really wish they would have paired it with Brazil in November.

Oh well, at least we got an F1 race in Texas!

I can't wait to go! I was just checking into flight options.....It looks like I can get a direct flight to Austin on Jet Blue. I also signed up on the US F1 web site to get notified when tickets go on sale.

Thanks for sharing. I'm thrilled to have F1 coming back to the US, and it sure looks like the facilities are going to be awesome.

That said, putting the USGP back into the slot a week after Canada might look good on paper from a logistical standpoint, but I'd hope after a year or two they give serious consideration to moving the date away from the heat. Besides, it would be very cool if things eventually work out for Austin to have a late season race with the championship battles at full chat.

2nd the note on the 'cooler' months

if they're really thinking of reducing costs, they should take into account travel.

That date isn't set as yet. The FIA calendar won't be "officially" set until at least the September meeting.

http://www.statesman.com/sports/pro/...n-1517648.html

But race fans might not have to break a June sweat just yet.

Nick Craw, president of the 10-member senate of Federation Internationale de L'Automobile, said in an email: "This is the proposed date. The date won't be final until the September or December WMSC meeting.

"A fall date is, therefore, possible, which would possibly offer cooler weather. "

Craw said U.S. Grand Prix promoter Tavo Hellmund and Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone could push the council for a revised race date.
Tickets will go on sale when the schedule is final and carved into stone, so no sooner than September.

This'll be MY vantage point come the race next year...I'm one of the first on the list for RV camping slots...

This is along the back straight between turn 11 & 12...

Easy enough to explain both.

Turkey:
  • Turkey didn't want to pay (the downside of doing deals with nations - they can stiff you.)
  • Bernie had taken over the promotion of the race and was losing big $$$
  • Bigger crowds attend local cockfights
  • No Turkish driver
Valencia:
  • Pays Bernie - WANTS the race
  • Alonso

It's a real shame to lose such a great race track.

Thanks Z for posting the update.

IMHO moving the USGP to the final leg with Brazil is the most logical decision, and puts Texas in the spotlight for any potential late season championship battles. Gives the Circuit a bit more time to prepare, as well.

Really do hate seeing Turkey go, but it isn't difficult to understand. Turn 8 is/was arguably one of the great corners of all time.

Can't help but think if Moscow is ever to become a reality, which venue might be sacrificed to make room for that?

Which is why it's more than a little surprising

Gives the Circuit a bit more time to prepare, as well.
No doubt that factored in, too.

As Bob Varsha pointed out on this morning's qualifying show for the Hungarian GP, the schedule I posted above is still provisional and subject to change. The teams are concerned about the logistics involved in some of the back-to-back races including the U.S. GP being just one week from the Brazilian GP. Everything has to be packed up, flown to another continent, unpacked, cleared through customs, set up at the track, etc., in time for Friday practice.

The schedule isn't final until the FIA ratifies it.

I hope it goes thru with this update as being the final. Nov. would be so much better.

Good point Jason! I am sure they are going nuts.
