Engine swap questions
Ok, before I undertake this job I'd like some advice.
What things do I need to order so that I'll be able to do the swap smoothly? Swapping LS6 w/ a caddy LS6
I have already:
-vette oil pan/windage tray/pickup tube
-ordered a new pilot bearing
What else do I need that I cant transfer over from the other motor?

nope, according to the internet, all I need to convert the caddi motor to a vette motor are the oil pan parts, which I have. I'm just thinking of other little things I might have missed.

I replaced the LS1 in my 99 with the Caddy LS6. As I recall, the main thing you need is gaskets:
- Exhast mainfold gaskets
- Intake manifold gaskets
- Oil pan gasket
- Water pump gasket
- Wather pump O-ring (I don't even remember what this was)

Last time I did one it was about 1 am when we were swapping the parts over (Jerry Onks car at the 09 Run-offs) but the pan/windage tray and pick-up were reused - make sure that you prime the oil pump with some type of pre-lube (I usually use Comp Cams Cam and Lifter Install Lube)

Prime the pump and make sure the O-ring slides in easy.
You can re-use most of the seals if you want - obviously look them over for condition. But that's the nice thing about the gaskets in the LS engines no clean-up and for the most part they can be reused.
Those pilot bearings can be a real pain so do yourself a favor and rent a puller if you don't have one. If you have any questions I can PM you my cell.
Have fun - Joel

The caddy engine is the one that you can order for a little over 3k and is readly available. I swapped mine a couple years ago and all I needed to buy was the pilot . Everything else I was able to take off the ls1.

2nd question about the pilot bearing. Can I buy it from napa (aka non-oem) or is this something that really has to be OEM? I don't think my bearing from gene cully is going to get here in time.

First check your local Chevy dealer(s). Mine had them in stock on the shelf.

The pilot bearing should be around somewhere local. It's just a roller bearing pilot bearing, same as in any 350. GM part #1406185, we always have a few in stock. I would think you should be able to find one.

If you make it to Rd Atl, be sure to bring a few boat anchors to throw in the trunk. Khoi's crate LS6 made over 390 at the tires right out of the box on the stock tune.

The swap requires the windage tray, pick-up, pan, and balancer/pulley. The CTSV pulley is slightly larger. You could use a slightly longer belt. Got the pilot bearing at Napa. CTSV uses a larger pilot bearing at the end of the crank shaft; the vette is smaller and sits deeper in the end of the crank shaft.
