Great! What tires? Standing or flying lap? Closed track, or open to public?
For some reason, the Video had NOT come up to see when I posted my questions? Sorry.
After reviewing this video seveeral times, I am impressed with the driver's "friction circle management" capabilities. He is able to brake at 1.3G.....transition to over 1G lateral loading, and continue to over 1G lateral plus about 0.3G acceleration VERY smoothly. The ZR1 has so much torque that it can provide .3G acceleration even in the upper gears, and more than .5G in the lower gears....amazing!

Michelin Pilot Sport Cup. Completely "as delivered" but with additional safety gear.
The clock starts after he hits a certain point. I'm not sure exactly what markers they use for start and finish but I think everyone who wants to claim the "record" uses the same points.
Track appears closed.

Garrett,
Michelon Pilot Sport Cup tires; probably fairly recent date codes . I think whenever a manufacturer is going for a timed lap it's closed to the public.
The timing point appears to start at the end of the pit lane (end of the blue wall) and ends at the beginning of that same lane.
I'll never be able to afford one, but sheesh what a car! And a stock setup to boot!
Have a good one,
Mike

Either Jim Mero (I think that was his name) stepped his game up, or they hired a pro driver. That guy was wheeling!
Edit: Watched the video, Jim Mero DID step his game up. Way to go!!!!

Ya gotta give the guy credit for any respectable time. There are so many corners on that track that look identical that it's difficult to memorize (necessary to know if the next blind curve turns left or right). It takes a lot of seat time to memorize that much track.

It looks like he needs to go another 200 yards to complete the lap to me.

Not all of the following lap times are comparable. A full lap of the Nordschleife, bypassing the modern GP track, is 20.832 km (12.944 mi) long. Most laps are completed 200 metres (656 ft) shorter for safety reasons. Full uninterrupted flying laps can only be done in closed sessions and race events like Castrol-Haugg-Cup.
During the industry testing sessions in which sport auto records its "Supertest", the track can not be traveled at full speed past "Tribüne 13" (T13, grandstand 13) in order to allow safe access from the old exit/entrance there. Thus, sport auto Supertests cover only about 20.6 km (12.8 mi), which in average yields a 7 s shorter lap time compared to a full lap.

Record Ring times are all about advertising, and if Porsche needed the advertising right now they'd video tape a 7:18 run in the GT2 RS. Timo Kluck and Walter Rohrl have both achieved a 7:18 Ring lap time in the GT2 RS.

I drove and rode with Mero a few years ago at Autobahn when the ZR1 wasn't available to the public yet (it was the annual GM press show). I remember driving him and showing him the lines. We switched while it started to rain and he was still driving the car like it was dry out. He did not need me!
He's a great driver, very modest and very personable!

They never have because they have almost always tested on manufacturer test days so anyone could see it. Porsche has never been one fo flub on performance numbers. Consult Nissan for that.
