Default Blank rotors update what's working?

Time for a new set, C5Z, no holes, grooves ok. I know this has been covered, but it's a "moving target" as the old brands we are used to outsource to China & a few new names come in.

Tire Rack, NAPA, Rock Auto?

Where are you buying & what are you buying & how much?

PLEASE don't drift the thread to BB or 2 piece, just keep focused on plain old blanks.

FWIW the last ones I got were Brembo blanks from TR for about $45 each a year ago. They worked great for autox & a few DE's. No cracks or checking, just wore down. Stock PBR & HP Plus pads.

I have "heard" that the foundry that molds the blanks matters a lot more than the mfg that finishes the rotor or the vendor that sells them to you. So if you know what foundry the rotor comes from or how to tell, please post that info. I have some rears from Brazil that were good & some others from China that also were good.

Found a new source that I am using on the big auction site. Check out Brake Labs 714-630-1360. If you want a direct link PM me as I don't know if we are allowed to post that here. They are selling sets of 4 rotors - 2F and 2R for $127.98 SHIPPED to your door. Just got a set in a couple of days ago and looked them over thoroughly. They are correctly vaned for each corner, surface machine finish is as good as any I have seen lately, there is no casting flash crap in the vanes like the cheapo Chineese and the thickness of the rotor surface is at least as thick as OEM. Don't know where they are made, absolutely no identifying markes on box or rotor. Going to give them a try at VIR in a couple of weeks. I can't purchase a set of fronts locally for that price much less a set of 4.

I had been buying Centric from racepages.com but they don't appear to have free shipping anymore and the price for one of the rotors went really high. Left was like $30 and right was like $60. I ended up trying Pronto and if memory serves I got them for $30. They are okay so far!

Box:

Custom rotor blackout kit:

Paint professionally removed (note finish machining marks):

Race Pages .com have a big choice, unfortunately none of them have any thickness measurements. All being equal I'd take the thickest that'll fit.

KNS Brakes has Centric premium rotors for $47 each. I use the DBA 4000 series from them and have had good results.

What about C6 Z51 sizes? Same question, no drilled but slotted okay. Besides DBA4000, u have seen some Centric on Tirerack's site but they arenot available yet. Anyone know of something else? It seems all I can find are drilled like the OEM

I just got a right rear Centric rotor from RockAuto.com for about $35

The box said China on it, BUT cast on inside a letters saying G-20, Min. Thk., USA. It's Blanchard ground and dynamically balanced with a black painted hat.

The LR centric spare rear that I got last fall is a no-name Chinese. It's ground and balanced too, but casting quality is not quite as good.

Maybe at this point you have a 50-50 chance of getting USA.

Yes I've been on the centric premiums for over a year. These last about 50% longer than the OE stuff from Brazil. We'll see how my 1st set of rears last. The OE rears really cracked fast (6 days and done).

I ended up with Centric & it's the best China rotor I've seen.

Full weight, dual cast, dynamic balance & painted both sides & inside the vanes.

$100 delivered 2 fronts. Thanks for the posts guys.

BTW I put EBC blue pads on that I got when they ran the promotion & they worked very well for street & autox. I may even try a track day with them.

I would compare to HP+.

Do the ECB's squeal like the HP+? Mine absolutely howl after 4 - 5 stops.

You know, it's really a puzzle to me, but I never have any squeal with HP+, Carbotech, EBC, stock. Maybe a tiny squeak once in a while that I figure is brake dust.

I do my own service & always clean everything up & use correct lube & also the orange anti squeal "glue" and never have an issue.

I think the guys that end up with brake squeal either:

1) Don't use the brakes hard enough
2) Don't bed them in right
3) Don't install correctly using lube & anti squeal materials.

I don't know if any of that helps. Do you install your own?

I didn't. Had mechanic do it while it was in for install of Katech splitter and side skirts. Might have to do them over - you can me a mile away.

Best of luck with that. I know how annoying squeal is.
