Default Wallyman's rebuild thread, aka watch me make a mess.

I'm gonna try and make this a little bit of a chronological picture journey through my rebuild. Today was day 1, spent about 4-5 hours just taking things apart and getting them partially cleaned.

First I pull off the undertray and am greeted by some shrapnel:

Ok, I already knew there was a hole in the motor, now to take off the front facia/splitter and intake/shrouding

Nothing crazy yet. Lets pull the radiator

Lots of space, maybe I will be able to pull this off w/ an engine hoist after all. Now to get the headers/coilpacks off. First out w/ the dipstick...

uhh, thats not supposed to be there... Didn't know I had a hole on that side of the motor too. Have to pull the valve covers to get the headers out.

Valvetrain looks good, maybe the heads are salvageable. But wait... what is this?

A little closer

Yes, that's right, you can see daylight through my engine block...

Here's where I stand right now:

Maybe I'll do some more work tomorrow.

At least you've kept your sense of humor about it. Thanks for posting pics of the carnage, and I hope it's back together soon.

Looks like a cheater motor to me. Lighter weight and extra cooling through the illegal holes in the block.

I'm hoping to get the motor out this weekend and the new one in next weekend. This would be the perfect time to lay the radiator forwards, but we'll see how much I can get accomplished.

Wally.. Start looking for a LS6 intake now as I am sure that one will have pieces of piston floating in it. Will the car be ready for July MO?
