What group do you plan to run with? SCCA, NASA, others? Do you plan to race wheel to wheel, do time trials, or drive HPDEs? Class rules are different.

TTU and ST1 if you run with NASA.

NCCC classes would be:
If you are Normally Aspirated and have a mostly stock interior: 3H
If you have forced induction and mostly stock interior: 3N
Gutted interior: 3RP

not really sure what all the different groups are. Just kinda growing into this. i want to run HPDE's and maybe some wheel to wheel. I love compitition and pushing it to the limit.

HPDE is basted on previous number of HPDEs. Not HP

so if you have done NONE then you would start in the NOVICE group.

W2W - first finish the race prep of your car, gutting your car install weld in roll cage and other things based on Tech Regulations of the sanctioning body, SCCA or NASA

NASA is HP to WT ratio. that is wt with drive.

AutoCross as above

Like AUNEGL said... HPDE's you start at the bottom, and work your way to the top. In Nasa for example, you would start in HPDE 1 and work your way to HPDE 4. Then if you want to progress further, you would go into Time Trials or straight into W2W.

As your car sits, it would be ST1 legal in W2W and TTU legal in TT. But, you wouldn't be competitive in either because you aren't close to the HP/WT ratio for those classes. ST1 has a 5.5/1 and yours is right at a 7.0/1. You would either need to detune to the car to run in ST2 (8.7/1) or drop weight out till you get close to the ST1 limit.

5.5/1?! wow....i need a bunch more power or like 500 less lbs...thats nuts. does it go by RWHP or crank HP? Also, if its RWHP, do you need to have dynojet numbers or mustang dyno numbers? or do you just say what you have and kill everyone or lose bad...

RWHP. Liable for testing at any time at the track.

When I started this year, I had to have a dynojet number for my rwhp for my car as well as an estimated weight on what the car would be at its lightest (aka at the end of a race). So I took it to a shop that Nasa-SE accepted and then we put it on the scales to see where we were at.

In Nasa, it goes by peak rwhp on a dynojet. If you don't have them or your weight, you get bumped to Super Unlimited which is an anything goes class.

Check out the rules for Super Touring on Nasa's website... its a little complicated at first looking at the rules with the points and stuff, but its not too bad. But as your car sits, you are right in the middle of ST1 and ST2 as far as the weight/hp limit. I choose ST2 because I just couldn't afford to run on a ST1 budget and the competition is pretty good in ST2 with the field size getting pretty big now. We had 14 ST2 cars show up at Road Atlanta a couple weeks ago and we could have 30-40 ST2 cars for the Nationals in September at Mid-Ohio.

you must have a dynojet sheet on file, and you can be called to have a dyno run at any race at any time.

Did you add your weight into that ? and add 200 lbs for the roll cage too.

base wt or ideal wt is 3250 lbs, with Race prep, driver and fuel, AFTER the race.

IIRC

ST1 is 3250 lbs / 5.5 = 590 RWHP

ST2 is 3250 lbs / 8.7 =373 RWHP

( this is why the stock LS6 is so popular it fits right into ST2 )

your Car

3400 lbs / 480 HP = 7.08 so that would be ST1

need to strip 150 lbs out min

Would you say you like to run....

Flat out?

Kidding...kidding...hopefully you remember that video that went around last year.

Another good option for you if you are looking to compete is time trials. There are a ton of us that do or did it as a stepping stone to W2W racing. Same level of competition but you can still run a street legal vehicle.

To clarify the NASA wt/hp rule, it's total vehicle weight, (including driver, fluids, equipment, etc.) divided by RWHP (on a dynojet.) There are usually dynos at the track, I'd recommend using one of those since that's what you'll be checked on after a race, and we all know dyno numbers can vary 10%.
