Advan AD08 vs Hankook R-s3 on oem rear
I am looking at a set of street-track-autoX tires to fit on my spare set of oem wheels for a reasonable budget. Tired of smoking my street tires, but do not want to go all the way to r888's and things like that by fear of causing oil starvation to my beloved LS3 !
From what I see searching around it might be Yokohama Advan AD08 in 255/35/18 and 295/30/19 or Hankook Ventus R-s3 in 255/35/18 and 305/30/19
now the trick is in the fit of the rear tires on the rear OEM wheel.
The advan is comfortable on the stock 10" rims but not as tall as the stock tire,
the Hankook is closer to stock on overall height but would be a bit tight on the 10" rim ...
Any thought or experiences with these tires ? How bad is fitting a tire made for a 10.5" rim on a 10" rim ?
Rgds

I was interested in the same thing and spend a good deal of time looking it up. From my research, a lot of people here have claimed their cars are fine with them (even in competition), but Im still hesitant to go against the tire company's recommendations.
Some people will claim the tire width wont be used all the way because of the thinner rim section as being a reason not to do it.
Others may argue that the roll of the vehicle and fact that the tire will flex, means that the extra width that would be unused in straight line acceleration will be at least partially used in a turn.
Im worried about getting into a situation of sudden pressure loss and then possibly having the tire try to make a getaway because of the sizing, so at this point its wider rims or 295's max for me.
hope this helps

LOL .... the A048 is an excellent tire and I ran them on my spec racer. However, the diameter's are quite important on the Corvette and you will need to be very close to spec or the active handling will be unhappy.
R888's actual traction is about the same as the A048's BTW. The R888 is an excellent tire but it isn't a Hoosier. I'd use the R888 or stay with the street tire and let the smoke bellow.

I ran Kumho XS's in stock sizes for the C6 for 2 years. Good tire in the dry but not so good when wet. And when you get down to the last 3rd of the tread they get hard. This year I am running R888 on stock rims, 255R35-18 and 295R30-19. The jury is still out but they do feel a little stickier than the XS. But at least on the front they need more camber than I currently run. After one autocross event and around 400 miles of highway driving you can see the outside wearing more than the inside.
Next year I will have a tire trailer to pull behind the car. A set of A6's, probably R888 or RE11's for damp or colder events and run my stock runflats back and for to the track. And if its really wet nothing bets a regular street tire.
PS: I don't plan on using these for HPDE's. Like you I am worried about oil starvation.

Hi all, thanks much for all the replies and inputs, very much appreciated !
I think I will go for re-11's 265/35/18 and 305/30/19 which looks like a similar front rear height ratio and see how it goes, and keep them on stock wheels to keep things in budget.
I have 275/30/19 on my front street wheels and they do rub on my drm brake ducts after 1 turn so I don't want to get too wide in front. I'll play with my adjustable coilovers and sway bars to counter potential understate.
Maybe next time I'll get myself a new set of wider tracks wheels !
Cheers

I will be running 275/35/18 R888's on TSW's in the front and 305/35/18's in the rear. Since the offset of the wheels is different than stock (and they are wider - 9 inch in front and 10.5 in the rear) I don't see any problems arising.
Seems enough people have done similar setups.

Yes they may rub the brake ducts, that is normal if you turn lock to lock at slow speeds. so dont turn lock to lock.
Ideal set up is 315s x 18 in all four corners.
in lue of that close as possible.

What if the car got dirty or even wet ... gasp!

ado8 vs re11
I am going with the ADO8'S because I hope they are a better dry weather tire with sharper turn in. I think either are a good choice. 265-35-18 up front and 305-30-19 in the rear. Any one know of any electronic or driveability issues that may occur.
Thanks for the help.
