Default C5-A4 Cooling issue at the track this weekend.

Yes, it was brutally hot around 100° ambient air temp. Heartland Park Road course in Topeka, KS.

Trans temp went to 260°+, even got a “speed limited warning of 55 mph” on my DIC.

Been to a few autocrosses, road courses and other speed events with my 1998 A4 and never had an issue.

Finally had some time to drop a new EFI tune I picked up over the winter. Few more HP’s but nothing radical.

Car has 80k+ miles on the stock tranny, fluids were changed out around 45k.

Engine temps never got over 250° IIRC.

Are there any good auxiliary transmission cooling solutions?

Any fluids better than factory types?

There are several types of auxillary auto tranny coolers available, either in the radiator or external. One is absolutely necessary if you are going to track the car and expect the tranny to live. Do a search for old threads. A switch to a top quality synthetic fluid is necessary.

You are fighting a losing battle. I can detail my war with the a4 if you need to be convinced, but the a4 is not suited to tracking. You will not have any trans longevity if you are remotely quick in your car.
