I like how these were done but are they legal?
Takes the S bends out of the door bars...

Not really sure what class , these are kind of similar to the
old C5r door bars before they went to the impact pod.
Might be easier to ask what class and sanctioning these will pass for :-)

Look good to me. Attaching them to the a and b pillars wouldn't really make the car any safer. As a matter of fact the span would be longer and even easier to crush. Just as easy as they bend out for installation they can bend in. IMO, the worst are the "S" shaped ones. I'd say that whole setup with straight x bars and the impact bars better than the majority of club cars out there.

Your cage will pass SCCA tech provided that the tubing diameter and wall thickness is within spec (it looks like it is, but obviously I can't tell from a pic). The construction is fine.
BTW, I'm a SCCA Chief of Tech.

Not mine but I've been all over the internet looking at different ways to
build a cage.
I am getting ready to do my own in a few weeks, at the point where I
need to make a decision to bend the tubing myself and have a friend
who is a certified welder tig weld it for me or just pay
someone local to do the whole thing...

This is my car, built by Blackdog Speed Shop in Chicago. Tubing is 1.75 dia. .120 wall DOM, and will pass SCCA tech (although I don't run SCCA). Blackdog racing has essentially the same design in their World Challenge cars.
BTW, Ray and Toby at Blackdog are excellent to work with. The cage is a work of art (all TIG welded), and yes, I can get out in less than 10 sec in full gear (HANS, etc.). The gap between the top of the door bars and the A/B roof member is bigger than it looks.

I understand - I bit the bullet and had the car shipped from Texas. No regrets whatsoever. However, I'm sure you can find someone in Florida who can do good work. Check with forum member Bosco022022 - he is in Florida, been racing at a high level for a long time, and I'm sure could point you in the right direction.

If anything the door bars are are "doubled up". It needs either the X bar or the nascar bars. not both but the nascar bars alone, as they are in the pic, might be spaced too far apart. I would feel very safe driving that car.

I do feel very safe. That was the point in doubling up the bars. I've been hit in the door before. The X bars work in compression with the A & B pillars, protecting you in a front or rear collision, while the Nascar bars add protection in a side impact. The spacing on the nascar bars is more important without the X bars. With both, I think I have plenty of protection from intrusion in a side impact. YMMV.

I think the double bars is a requirement for World Challenge. Blackdog probably builds all of the cages the same if the guy is a tract rat, club racer, or going to race world challenge.
