Default Brake pads - squeak squeak squeak

On my '07 Z06..... My Carbotech's squeak like crazy - wife wants them off the car. Can I easily change them for a less aggressive pad for daily driving and return them for track days? On my stock rotors....

If you go to the Carbotech 1521 for the street, all you have to do is swap pads when you want, no rebedding or anything just swap and go. That the beauty of our compounds they are all compatiable with each other.

What compound are you using on the street?

Easily depends on two things - did you get the single piece pads or the padlets. If you got the single piece pads you have to remove the calipers and therefore a pair of 130 ft-lb bolts. Not difficult per se but not a quick change-out. If you stayed with padlets then you're depending on how those pad bolts GM uses through the calipers hold up. I haven't bothered trying to remove mine, I use the single piece pads, but I know I've read a lot of guys having trouble getting those out, stripping the heads of them, etc. But then of course I've read a few times where they've backed themselves out and started rubbing on wheels!

So unfortunately either way it's not a quick change but it's not outrageous either.

I used to swap my out after each event, pads and rotors. That worked up to 4 events per year, but now at >/= 6 events per year, baby just stays track prepared.
The spousal solution i found was to install a GHL Exhaust. The drone keeps my wife from wanting to drive or ride in the Z so I can leave the brakes, race tires and seats alone!

Europeans would rather have brakes that STOP......even if they squeek.

Americans would rather have quiet brakes.........even if they don't stop.

Carbotech Bobcats. No noise and I can swap to my CT race pads without changing rotors.

How long does it take and what would you say is the level of difficulty... on a scale of 1-10 (one being easiest)

I was going to say get a new wife, but if your avatar picture is a pic of your wife, I'd have to say do whatever it takes to make her happy.

I would guess, although not difficult, it would take 2 to 3 hours to switch out your pads. I have 10's and 8's and they squeel like a stuck pig too, I think the Bobcat one piece are a good option.

The actual work is easy, it's nothing but wrench turning. If you're going to use the padlets and can get the pad bolts to come out then the longest part of the job is getting the car in the air and getting the wheels off. If you're going to remove the calipers and put in single piece pads it will take a little longer and a little more elbow grease.

I remove the calipers so.... First time you do it might take you an hour or so each corner. Pretty conservative estimate but the first time I do the brakes on practically any car it takes me a while as I prefer to take my time, double & triple check what I'm about to do, etc. Basically I exercise healthy paranoia!

Once you've done it and seen what needs to be done it's somewhere around 30 minutes a corner taking your time.

Europeans love the brake assist, as they dont have to push the brake peddle too hard. Bunch of whimps

Americans dont want brake dust. so they dont have to clean their wheels or car.

I want brakes that stop so hard I can do a stoppie. all almost
