Holding the engine up to remove sub frame?
Best way? Tech needs to pull spring & sub frame to replace upper oil pan & from cover gaskets.
Is this an extremely critical procedure of is there some "leeway" if the engine moves an inch or so up/down?
What is the worst that can happen? Crack torque tube? Worse?
Thanks.

I did this several years ago when I put the windage tray in the bottom of my oil pan. I built a small bridge across the overhead of the engine using 2, 12” long 4 X 4 resting on top of the shock mounts, then you use a 4 X 4 to each of the 12” to make a bridge. I have a small chain hoist, but if you don’t have that a good ratchet strap that you can get tight will work as well. Since the engine isn’t moving or swaying the bridge stayed in place the whole time that I did all this work.

you might get enough room by lowering the subframe as far as it will go on the bolts, then jacking the engine as far as it will go on the engine mount bolts. That's several inches of travel, maybe "just enough".
