The official specifications are in for Aston Martin's 2012 Vantage GT3 race car, which is being developed to surpass the track record of its DBRS9 predecessor.
The GT3 boasts a modified version of Aston Martin's production-version 6.0-liter V12 engine and is expected to produce about 600 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. A carbon-fiber driveshaft mates the engine to a six-speed sequential transmission with semiautomatic paddle shifters.
The V12 Vantage has improved weight balance compared with the DBRS9. Together with a shorter wheelbase and lower engine position, Aston Martin expects the car will have better handling and performance. Antilock-braking and traction-control systems come standard.
The Vantage GT3 will be eligible for race series around the globe, including the FIA GT3 Championship, the ADAC Masters, the Nürburgring VLN, the Blancpain Endurance Series, the British GT, Belcar and the Open GT.
