Traffic slowed for Turn 1 and Henzler pressed into the inside pushing Beretta outside toward Magnussen. So much for taking it easy on the first lap.

Gossip has the Corvette team on a 2 year probation period by GM. There seem to be some issues with the big guys. Of course all of this is totally unsubstantiated.

Turn 1 is a brutal set up, the moment I saw the track layout I knew it would be the Big Crash-em-Up zone ... the corner is almost identical to the Toronto Indy set up ... there were four big crashes there this year, in the last 20 minutes of the race.

Myself and forum member BWright (frequents the ZR1 section mostly) were there in person for the race today. We had paddock passes as well, and got there around 2PM figuring we'd have enough time to explore. Out first stop was the Cheesecake factory for a very late lunch.
And that turned out to be one of our mistakes. In order to get to the paddock, we had to make our way to one building that had exactly one stairwell leading up to the one bridge into the infield. Because we relaxed for so long at the restaurant, we didn't make it over that bridge and to our grand stand until 20 minutes prior to the race starting. The foot traffic was that bad. We never made it to the paddock.
OK, enough of that. The showing by team Corvette today was, by all accounts, just embarrassing. First turn? Then spins again? Then takes the Bimmer out near the end of the race earning him a stop-and-go? Come ON guys?
I wasn't clear why the race yellow-flagged about half-way through. It looked like they were repairing something on the track, or somesuch. The massive TV screen near our grand stand showed them doing something, but again, it wasn't really clear. For those that watched it on TV... what happened?

Only thing I can say about this event after being at the track all day Saturday. I will NEVER return. This is just a horrible place for spectators, especially the ones like me who want to watch racing.
There apparently plenty of people here that seemed like they could not care less about the race itself.
I've been spoiled by the fabulous Mid Ohio Sportscar Course..
This Baltimore Grand Prix is a joke....
That's just my take on this pace, but I did hear similar sentiments during the day.
In case anyone wants to say "Well what do you expect from a city street circuit" (because I DID hear that today from someone)
I've also been to Long Beach and that place is also terrific for viewing the race....

The race was good to watch on TV but looked so boring from a spectator point of view.
That last chicane had to be the dumbest thing ive seen in awhile.

I had sure hoped for a better showing by the team. Oh well, that's racing. Maybe we'll have a better showing next time. Milner - hmmm, maybe he needs to cool it a bit.

I will say i had a lot of fun was disappointed with the vettes. Of course i was left in the dark most of the race. But a podium finish none the less. Sucked to see the Jags out so soon...they sounded incredible in person.
Just being there was a great experience. Ya there were some quirks with the track/seating/view points but i think that's to be expected with any street race on it's 1st debut.
I have not been spoiled enough to see some of the greater tracks in this country and being able to see the ALMS so close to home was a real treat.
Foot traffic was bad, but oh well i had a great time. Not complaining. Upset they sold out of T-shirts we should have got one when we came in but the race was starting and had to wait till after. By then they sold out.
