Default Good helmet for HPDE?

Hello,
I am going to Summit Point for a "Friday at the Track" event. They require a Helmet (SA2000/M2000 or higher rating). What do you all recommend? I am bringing my 2008 C6 coupe and my 2004 BMW M3 cabrio. I have never tracked my car before, so I am completely lost.

Many tracks and organizations will not allow any 2000 helmet. Get at least a SA2005 or SA2010. Many tracks will not allow a "M" (motorcycle) rated helmet. If you get a SA2005-2010 you will be good at most if not all tracks.
I have a Bell sport and it works fine for me. Try them on if you can. I knew what size I needed and ordered mine as there are none to try on in Little Rock. Good luck and have fun.

I would recommend buying one that is as new as possible. That way you can use it for the longest time (10 years). I would also recommend buying an SA2010 rated helmet so you can use it for whatever you want. It would be good for autocross, HPDE, drags, etc.

I just bough a new helmet this year. I prefer open faced helmets so I bought a Pyrotect Pro Airflow SA2010.

Thank you for your replies. I like open face helmets. I mostly wear a half-helmet when motorcycle riding, unless its VERY cold out.

Full face helmets would be a better option for protection.

Goto the OG Racing pro store at Summit point (call and get their hours)
Or go the store in sterling and try on helmets.

This will get you a well fitting helmet and one that will be good for several years

I just ordered a Bell M4 from Apex Performance and I am very happy with the quality. I think they are still running a special with a free helmet bag, free shipping, and a cotton helmet sock.

I agree with going with a SA2010 and full face.

I have both and if you run with open windows (usually required) you will only get hit in the face ONCE with clag/OPR/tire boogers flying at over 100 mph and then you will switch to a closed face helmet.

Yes they are hotter & you can't talk out of them as well, deal with it.

Open face good for autox.

Not only do I run a closed faced helmet but I always put the visor down as well.

My current helmet is a Simpson Carbon Fiber Stingray. I love the light weight and it comes pre-drilled for HANS.

Give the forum vendors a shot, you won't be disappointed (they do pay for this forum).
I could be wrong, but I don't think Apex is.
