bras
are you allowed to have bras on to protect the front for autox or road courses?
If so, which would be better, the stretch fit or the "leather" style.
Thanks!

On my C5s I used the GM Bra. With the snaps it held to the car nicely and all I had to do was tape the edges where the fasteners wrapped into the wheel well. Most bras are susceptible to debris thrown off the tires in this area which gets blasted behind the bra. I ran just one bra on my C5Z over 5K miles at mostly triple digit speeds and it held up nicely. The first bra I had on my 97 was one of the MAM bras and it made it through two years before ripping. Here is a picture of what the one on the Z looked like at speed.
If you have a C5 the GM Bra is probably the best one to use on the track. If you can't get one or don't have a C5 then get Collision Wrap 3mm thick film and use it to wrap the front of the car. A 100 ft x 18 in roll runs ~ $45. You can get it at local auto body shop supply stores or on line by searching for collision wrap.

Burning Brakes
No problem at all. See pics for examples of my car with bra + tape on headlights.

I've seen the stretch fit on some cars... personally I think it's a bit too thin to protect against anything more than some bug splatter. The leather bras are nice and thick and can withstand a bit more debris.

If you can afford it, a clear bra is the way to go. I have one on my Z06 (which is tracked continously) and here are the coverage areas I had done:
- 24" up the hood
- headlight covers
- front bumper cover
- rocker panels
- bottom of doors below BSMs
- rear quarter panel up to red marker light
- sideview mirrors and stems
It was not cheap, but definitely worth it. It costs me right at $700 for all of that.

I used the GM bra on my old track/street car for a while with really good results. I eventually learned that there's just no way to keep it pristine if you're on track much at all.
You windshield, hood, roof and headlights will all take a pounding. I used clear shelf paper on the hood for a while, but I ended up buying another hood to put on the car so the original one wouldn't get beat up. It was a lot of work. I'm so glad I don't have to dick around with all that stuff now.

Agree 3m clear is the best. The leatherette kind is ok for autox, but for track I think some organizers would make you take it off. I would not want to be on a high speed track with a car with a leatherette bra or any bra the detaches with hooks/rubber bungees etc..

The way these rules usually get created is it flys off once & delays the event (debris flag) or another driver has to deviate to avoid it and a rule is born.
I have seen hoods fly off, wings, spoilers, wheels (several) so it's not a stretch to imagine one of these clip on bras come loose.

Do what I did. Go to GMpartsdirect and buy a new nose for $350.00 and replace your nose. Put the painted one in the basement and save it for later when you want to stop beating on the car. Looks better than a bra, cheaper than clear shield, and takes a beating without putting a scratch on your original nose.
