Default SCCA Roll Bar Sanity Check

I was thinking over 3000 lbs in SCCA production car the minimum tube is 1 3/4" and .120 wall. However, I thought I read somewhere in STO there was only a 2700+ spec and it was 1 3/4" and .095 wall.

Which one is it for an STO/ITE car? Thanks....

Minimum tubing sizes for all required roll cage elements
(All dimensions in inches):
Vehicle Weight Tubing Size (inches)
With Driver (outer diameter x wall thickness)
Up to 1700 lbs. 1.375 x 0.080
1701-2699 lbs. 1.50 x 0.095 or 1.625 x 0.080
Over 2699 lbs. 1.50 x .120 or 1.75 x 0.095or 2.00 x .080

OK, now that must be what I saw. However, I THOUGHT that the production, IT, etc. spec is over 3000 equals 1 3/4" by .120. Maybe it still is and if I want to run both I need the .120????

Funny thing is, if it's a true built STO car, but you want to run ITE regionals...SFR is probably the only region who will even check it. They made me put aluminized tape over the holes in my trunk for my Penske shocks because flames could come inside. They apparently don't realize that Corvette's are fiberglass and if there's a fire back there it's getting through regardless if you ave aluminized tape

I built mine from 1.75 x .120
Seems like I was trying to make it legal for both NASA and SCCA. At the time my car was over 3200lbs so I had to go with 120 wall. I think that was for NASA. All that extra weight and I've never done an SCCA event.

SFR-SCCA has been known to make current spec World Challenge cars, with logbooks, drill holes in their cages to prove they're to spec...

Sounding like 1 3/4" by .120 wall....hehe.

Oh well....I HOPE the car will be near 2700 lbs in ITE trim, but can't guarantee it. WIll probably run it in the AV8SS class anyway and to get my power to weight right I will need more weight anyway....

Like I said in my previous post...if any region would check, it would be SFR. My T1 car should not have issues in any region where I am running T1 once it has an annual tech was my point

Mine is .120 also... if I remember correctly my cage builder said the difference between .095 and .120 was around 25-30lbs in my application. I can't remember the exact metrics for tubing strength based on wall thickness or diamater (not an engineer) but the .120 was substantially stronger than the .095. IMO it was worth the extra 30lbs and I hope to never test it

To the OP:

1. Given the crash you went through in your Camaro I'm surprised you're not trying to race a tank

2. More pics of your build in your thread please... love watching build threads come together.
