Default Help Changing hood on C-5 - ?

Ok - I changed my hood and it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. To get to the lower (more forward bolts) the hood has to be part way down. I want to put my Z-16 hood back on - so is there some tip or trick to getting or holding the hinges in a partially closed position? Appreciate any help - thanks

You can take out your headlights. That'll make it really easy.

Detach the struts and use a piece of 2x4 cut to length. 100% best way is to borrow two people to hold/support the hood. Don't want to cross thread a hood.

The OEM method of taking the hood off in the service manual is to unbolt the hinges from the frame rails. Best to take a silver Sharpie to trace the base of the hinge before removing.

A couple of buddies and a couple of six packs worked for me!

Ok, that's pretty much what I was afraid - the first switch over was a little hairy, particularly the install part. I work on some lengths of small chain to hold the brackets part way down to allow access to all the bolts.

I'll still need to get some extra hands - so it's off to the beer store!!

Thanks

If working by yourself.
Mark where the hinge sets onto the fender/frame, with blue painters tape or white marker.
With the hood up,attach over head c clamps & racheted nylon straps as posted in pictures

Have cushion/towels in position inbetween hood nose & facia.

Remove hood shocks at clips on hood & swing out of the way.
Working on one side at a time. Remove the 2 nuts on the hood hinge to fender. Pull the hinge upward as to colaspe the hinge to expose both bolts and remove them.
Remove the hinge & then repeat on other side of hood.
Then switching from side to side , rachet downwards the hood to the closed position.
Now hood is ready to be removed.

Attach strap above & to each side of hood.

Have cushions/towels,etc between hood & front facia.
