Default MTI Racing - Highlights from DAYTONA TRACKDAY (pics and video)

Daytona International Speedway
October 2011
NARRA Trackday
With MTI Racing

Daytona

Daytona Beach, Florida. Sunny skies, great weather, and great friends. This was probably the best trackday EVER.

Daytona International Speedway…The Rolex 24hr track… History is made here... A track on most people’s “bucket list”. Simply entering the track gives you a sense of entering a GRAND Coliseum. You swear you hear trumpet fanfare as you enter through the tunnel, and come out onto the infield paddock. It is almost like entering the Superbowl in slow motion.

Attending with us were customers, Gene, Mike, Randy, Kent, Jeff, and Michael. We rented six NASCAR garages for our Corvettes, Grand-Am GTO, and 5th Gen Camaro. The guys brought their wives and made a vacation/trackday out of the weekend. We raced around the track during the day, grilled burgers for lunch, and laughed our heads off at dinner time.

Gene’s C5 Z06 cracks the sound barrier on the highbanks!

Each of our customers had road course experience, but nothing could prepare them for driving on 31 degrees of banking. Just imagine being in a fighter plane, leaned over, and pulling back on the stick. Kinda like that. Furthermore, almost 60% of your laptime is spent at 100% Wide Open Throttle! After adjusting to the g-forces, the guys were able to fly at over 175 mph. What a rush!

The Z06 Corvettes of Mike and Randy were lapping consistently under the 2 minute mark. Both cars are powered by MTI Racing Stage 2 Extreme engines, with MTI Racing suspension preparation. “Nothing handles like it”, says Randy. “This thing is so well balanced, predictable and responds so well. I’m no Reese ***, but it makes me look like him. That’s how fast it is!” Equipped with a PPG Transmission and Brembo Brakes, Mike finished 1st place in Time Trials group with a blistering 1 minute 56.8 seconds, finishing ahead of the fastest Vipers in the Unlimited class. He was also showcased in a Magazine photo shoot for an upcoming issue of Grassroots Motorsports magazine.

You can do this too!

When you drive Daytona for the first time, the first few laps are intimidating. Once you get the hang of it, it is really fun to drive.

If you would like to be part of our track events mailing list, send me a PM or Email(stephen@mtiracing.com).

We still have Road Atlanta on Thanksgiving Weekend and again on Dec 3,4.
